Country music artist and actress Jana Kramer recently expressed concerns over NFL player Travis Kelce’s behavior and its potential impact on his partner, pop musician Taylor Swift.
Kramer, 40, discussed Kelce, 34, on her “Whine Down” podcast on May 6, 2024, criticizing him for what she perceives as excessive drinking and aggressive behavior.
Kramer stated during her podcast, “In every video I’ve seen, he appears to be drunk,” expressing fear that his habits might rub off on Swift, who is also 34. She added, “I notice her drinking more now—like the company you keep.” Kramer took issue with Kelce’s interaction with Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid during the Super Bowl, commenting, “The Super Bowl incident rubbed me the wrong way… that aggression.”
At first, Kramer considered Kelce and Swift a charming pair. However, she now says that Kelce “remind[s] [her] of an ex,” due to his behavior. Kramer did not specify the ex she was referring to, but her guest, Josie Van Dyke, hinted that she may have been talking about Kramer’s ex-husband, former Washington Redskins player Mike Caussin.
Additionally, Kramer critiqued Kelce’s apparent enjoyment of public attention since he started dating Swift, describing it as over-enthusiastic and cheesy.
Kelce, who reportedly has never met Kramer, was taken aback by her remarks, according to a source close to the NFL player. The source told Page Six that Kelce was surprised by Kramer’s decision to publicly discuss his relationship with Swift.
Another source defended Kelce, arguing that his celebrity status naturally puts him under intense public scrutiny, leading to frequent sightings of him drinking.
“It’s not like he’s passed out anywhere. If that were the case, I’d understand the concern, but that’s not what’s happening.” The source suggested that Kelce is being unfairly judged due to his high-profile status.
Kramer’s comments sparked a backlash on social media. One user questioned Kramer’s authority to judge Kelce and Swift’s relationship given her own history, while another bluntly suggested that Kramer refrain from speaking on the matter entirely.
Kelce and Swift’s relationship has been a topic of public interest, with the couple often making headlines. In December 2023, Swift publicly acknowledged their relationship, praising Kelce’s support. “I’m going to watch him do what he loves, and we’re there for each other,” she told Time magazine. “We’re just proud of each other.”
In response to Kramer’s comments, Kelce admitted that he is still navigating the public attention surrounding his relationship with Swift. He said, “You just have to keep living, learning, and enjoying the moments.”
Despite the criticism, Kelce and Swift continue to make public appearances together, including recent sightings at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky, and a charity event in Las Vegas hosted by Patrick Mahomes.
