In an open conversation with Kevin Hart, Ben Affleck offered a glimpse into his marriage to Jennifer Lopez and the extraordinary level of fame she enjoys. The actor, recognized for his work in front of and behind the camera, discussed their family life and the impact of fame on their unit.

Affleck, aged 51, was frank about the public’s response to his wife. “I get out with [Lopez], all the kids, through Times Square,” he recalled, “and the reaction was overwhelming. It was like the mayor arrived.”

The actor recollected a recent experience in New York City, demonstrating the fervor that surrounds Lopez. I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ There was a lady, she was smoking weed, in a full purple skintight suit—she’s a heavy lady—and she starts running backwards filming, going ‘J-LO!!’”

Affleck’s three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner and Lopez’s twins from a previous marriage to Marc Anthony comprise their blended family. Affleck disclosed that even his children are cognizant of the unusual circumstances they’re in. He related a humorous story about one of his kids suggesting titles for a potential tell-all book, with “JLo Was My Stepmother” being a notable jest.

Despite being accustomed to fame, Affleck acknowledged that the level of attention Lopez garners is on a different scale. “I really second-guess it a lot,” he confessed when talking about raising his kids in such a high-profile setting. He expressed worries about the contrast between his children’s upbringing and his own, stating, “I didn’t know any rich people.”

Affleck also clarified his reputation for appearing unhappy in paparazzi photos, stating that his “resting hard face” often misleads people. “I’m also a little bit shy,” he admitted. “I don’t like a lot of attention. This is why people see me and they’re like, ‘Why is this dude always mad?’ Because someone had their camera sticking in my face, and I’m like, ‘OK, here we go.’”

Affleck’s preference for working as a director and filmmaker stems partly from his discomfort with public scrutiny. He stressed that while he doesn’t mind being photographed at public events or with his wife, he’s particularly protective of his children’s privacy.

Despite the difficulties, Affleck spoke favorably about his relationship with Lopez and their shared journey. The couple, who rekindled their relationship after nearly two decades, eloped in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2022, reigniting media interest in their relationship.

Affleck reflected on the public’s perception of him throughout his career, noting that people often project traits onto him that he doesn’t necessarily see in himself. “People are projecting something onto me that I don’t feel about myself at all,” he stated. “And one thing I do think it gives off, whether it’s a certain look or role … for a long time they’d be like, ‘This guy’s a frat guy.’ I’ve never been in a fraternity one day in my life.”

The interview offered an uncommon look into the intricacies of preserving personal life while under continuous public gaze. Affleck’s openness about the challenges and his efforts to safeguard his family’s privacy were evident throughout the discussion.

As Affleck and Lopez continue to manage their high-profile relationship, the actor’s forthright comments illuminate the realities of celebrity life and the effect it has on family dynamics. While the couple’s fame may be overwhelming, Affleck’s grounded perspective and dedication to his family remain clear.
