Hugo Vickers, a respected royal biographer, has made a startling forecast that Prince Harry may one day return to the UK on a permanent basis, but without his wife, Meghan Markle. The co-author of Prince Edward’s memoir “A Royal Life,” Vickers described Prince Harry as an individual filled with anger and fear of losing his spouse.
According to Vickers, King Charles III would be open to welcoming back his son. He said that the king has kept the possibility of Harry’s return open, adding that the prince had done a commendable job previously and seemed content.
Prince Harry and Meghan have visited the UK only a handful of times since they stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. Their most recent joint trip was to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. Vickers suggests that Prince Harry’s return to the UK could be a positive development, provided he comes back without Meghan. “If he comes home, we must be very nice to him because he won’t particularly want to,” Vickers stated, underlining the need for a hospitable welcome for Prince Harry.
Grant Harrold, a former royal butler who served King Charles, shared similar views. Harrold suggests that Prince Harry, now 39, would need to offer a public apology for the damage caused by his revealing memoir, “Spare,” to be accepted back into the royal family. Harrold stated, “The only way I see this happening is a public acknowledgment from Harry, where he says that he’s sorry for the hurt that the book created.”
Royal expert Jennie Bond also weighed in, suggesting that Prince Harry could be forgiven and accepted back into the royal family over time. However, this would likely necessitate a separation from Meghan. “I think that Harry, without Meghan, would be forgiven and welcomed back into the royal fold in the fullness of time,” Bond said.
During his latest solo trip to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, Prince Harry expressed his wish to see his father, but their schedules did not permit a meeting. Meghan, now 42, who hasn’t visited the UK since the Queen’s funeral, chose to remain in the US with their children during her husband’s visit.
Despite these conjectures, it is uncertain how or when such a return might occur. The ongoing tension between Prince Harry and the royal family, particularly with his brother Prince William, complicates the situation. Harrold noted, “Some hurtful remarks were made, and not all families know how to reconcile.”
