The search for a missing teenager has tragically ended with the recovery of a body from the Great Miami River in Middletown, Ohio. According to the Middletown Police Department, the recovery operation was initiated on Sunday, July 7, after first responders were alerted to a body in the river around the 4400 block of N. Verity Parkway at around 3:45 pm.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 19-year-old Justin Lewis, Jr. Initial findings suggest that the cause of death was drowning, however, the precise circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation by both the coroner’s office and the Middletown Police Department.

The discovery of Lewis’s body came after reports of a teenager who was last seen entering the river at Miami River Park on Saturday. As local authorities ramped up their search efforts, they issued advisories on social media asking the public to avoid the area.

Lewis had reportedly entered the river on Saturday evening, prompting a comprehensive search operation involving several agencies. Middletown Fire Chief Paul Lolli expressed his sorrow, stating, “We were hopeful for a different outcome, but tragically, Justin’s body was found. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Multiple local agencies were involved in the search, including the Middletown Fire Department. They utilized a variety of resources to locate Lewis, with firefighters and police officers scouring the riverbanks while boats were used to search the water. Their joint efforts exemplify the community’s dedication to providing closure to the grieving family.

Community members have expressed their sadness over the tragic event. One local resident, who chose to remain unnamed, said, “It’s heartbreaking to see such a young life lost this way. The river can be very dangerous, and this is a stark reminder of that.”

Local officials have taken this opportunity to stress the importance of water safety, especially during the summer months when activities in and around rivers increase. They have emphasized the need for caution around bodies of water and the importance of adhering to all safety guidelines.

Authorities are encouraging anyone who has information about this case to step forward. Tips can be directed to the Middletown Police Department.
