Kevin Spacey, the esteemed actor, is yet to surrender the keys to his Baltimore, Maryland residence following its recent sale.
Despite the sale of his waterfront mansion in Baltimore to real estate investor Sam Asgari, Spacey has refused to vacate the property. The 9,000-square-foot mansion, bought by Spacey in 2017 for $5.65 million, was sold at a foreclosure auction in July 2023 for $3.24 million.
Asgari claims that Spacey has demanded to stay in the house rent-free for six months. Despite continuous negotiations with Spacey’s legal representatives, the actor had not left the property as of mid-August 2024.
The luxurious six-bedroom property is located in the exclusive Inner Harbor area of Baltimore. It features a billiard room, a home cinema, a chef’s kitchen, and a four-car garage. After being let go from his role on Netflix’s “House of Cards” in 2017 due to sexual assault allegations, Spacey made the property his primary dwelling. His departure from the show started a series of legal and financial difficulties.
The actor’s financial woes heightened when he defaulted on the $20,230 monthly mortgage payments of the property, leading to the foreclosure auction. In a heartrending interview with Piers Morgan in June 2024, Spacey shared his financial struggles, stating, “I’ve lost everything.”
Even though the house has been sold, the auction needs to be ratified by the court before Asgari can legally claim ownership. If Spacey continues to refuse to vacate the property, Asgari might resort to eviction with the assistance of local law enforcement. Spacey’s attorneys have dismissed Asgari’s allegations as baseless.
The foreclosure is another hurdle for Spacey, who has been embroiled in numerous legal issues linked to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. While Spacey was cleared of charges in London in 2023, his shaky financial status led him to list his central London penthouse for sale at $3.8 million.
As the legal proceedings continue, Asgari is hopeful for a peaceful resolution. However, the ongoing negotiations have resulted in a standoff between the troubled actor and the property investor. As such, Spacey’s future in the luxurious Baltimore mansion remains in limbo.
