Randal Malone, a charismatic actor renowned for his distinctive presence in Hollywood, passed away on July 28, 2024, at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California. He was 66 and had been battling kidney disease, as confirmed by his family.

Born on May 29, 1958, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Malone’s early life hinted at a fascination with entertainment. He had a minor uncredited role in The Marshall of Windy Hollow (1972), sharing the screen with Western stars Ken Maynard and Tex Ritter. This experience marked the beginning of his journey in the entertainment industry.

After graduating from Murray State University with a degree in theater, Malone ventured into stage performance. His stage debut in an “Annie Get Your Gun” production initially gained attention. His theatrical prowess eventually led him to Los Angeles, where he carved a niche in the entertainment landscape.

Malone’s breakthrough came in the 1990s when he was cast on MTV’s dating show “Singled Out.” Known for portraying “Film Star Randal Malone,” he captivated audiences by portraying a male version of Norma Desmond from “Sunset Boulevard.” Chris Hardwick, one of the show’s hosts, remarked that Malone’s character was among the funniest elements of the program.

Beyond television, Malone had a prolific career in low-budget films, especially horror. His film credits include “The Triggerman” (1997), “Vampire Femmes” (1999), and “Dahmer vs. Gacy” (2010). Malone’s love for acting was evident when he stated, “Being given the opportunity to act in a film is one of the greatest blessings. I savor every chance I get to play such a game.”

In addition to his acting endeavors, Malone was deeply involved in Hollywood’s philanthropic circles. He served as president of the Southern California Motion Picture Council since 2004, contributing significantly to its charitable activities. Malone was known for his efforts to support the Motion Picture and TV Fund and worked with Johnny Grant, often referred to as the “Mayor of Hollywood,” to secure stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Malone’s personal life was as colorful as his career. He cultivated friendships with Hollywood’s Golden Age icons, including Lucille Ball and Ann Miller. His extensive Hollywood memorabilia collection, which included rare and candid photographs of elusive stars, reflected his passion for the industry’s history. “I know more than any of the other so-called ‘experts’ about old Hollywood because I didn’t read or write about it; I lived it,” Malone once said.

Malone is survived by his mother, Shirley; his brothers, Donald and James; his sister, Allison; and his partner of 38 years, Michael Schwibs. A memorial service is being organized to honor his life and legacy.
