Mandojo, a renowned Tanzanian singer whose real name is Joseph Francis, tragically lost his life on August 11, 2024, after being assaulted by a security guard who erroneously thought he was a burglar. This incident took place at the All Saints Parish Catholic Church in the Nzuguni district of Dodoma, the capital city of Tanzania.

The security guard, Raphael Keneth Ndamanhwa, is now under arrest for his alleged involvement in the death. This was confirmed by the Acting Commander of the Dodoma Regional Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Anania Amo. The investigation into the circumstances leading to Mandojo’s death is still ongoing, with Ndamanhwa being the main suspect.

At the age of 45, Mandojo had established himself as a significant figure in the bongo flava music genre. He was particularly recognized for his collaboration with fellow musician Domokaya. His repertoire included popular songs such as “Wanok Nok,” “Dingi,” and “Nikupe Nini,” which were a fusion of traditional Tanzanian elements and international influences, resonating with fans across the region.

Reports indicate that Mandojo was discovered hiding in a dog kennel on the church grounds, leading Ndamanhwa to incorrectly identify him as a thief. The security guard, supported by other individuals attending a service at the church, restrained and assaulted Mandojo. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital.

Mandojo’s untimely death has sent ripples through the Tanzanian music industry. Fellow musicians have taken to social media platforms to express their grief and pay tribute to the late artist. Domokaya, his close collaborator, shared his sorrow on Instagram, noting that the news was particularly hard to digest considering that Mandojo’s birthday was due on the 22nd of the same month. He wished his departed friend eternal peace and light.

Another musician, Anselm Tryphone, also known as Soggy Doggy, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his friend and brother, Mandojo, stating that his heart was heavy with pain. He wished him peace and pondered on the fleeting nature of life, extending his condolences to Mandojo’s family and friends. In his message, he acknowledged that everything happens according to God’s plan.

The tragedy of Mandojo’s death is further amplified as it occurred just days before his 46th birthday. As the Dodoma Regional Police’s investigation continues, fans and fellow artists are closely following the developments in hopes of justice being served in this case.

Despite his untimely demise, Mandojo’s influence on the Tanzanian music scene will certainly not be forgotten. His legacy endures through his music, continuing to inspire and entertain listeners.
