Controversy has been stirred by Danica Patrick, a former NASCAR driver, as she questioned the recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris by pop icon Taylor Swift for the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Patrick, known for her conservative beliefs, voiced her doubt about Swift’s political announcement on social media platforms.

Swift, currently making an average of $13.6 million per concert during her Eras Tour, publicly voiced her support for Harris following the September 10, 2024 presidential debate. This endorsement drew widespread attention and elicited responses from a variety of celebrities and political analysts.

Patrick, who holds the record for the most successful woman in American open-wheel racing history, expressed her uncertainty about the spontaneity of Swift’s endorsement. In an Instagram reel, Patrick stated, “I love her music TBH (to be honest). But there’s no way that long post was ready right after the debate. I have been on the other side, that was probably written and revised by a team over the last week. Aka. A plan.”

Patrick’s remarks have fueled a debate regarding the authenticity of celebrity endorsements in contemporary politics. Her critique extends beyond Swift’s political preferences, suggesting that these endorsements might be meticulously planned rather than spontaneously triggered by political events.

Since her retirement from professional racing in 2018, Patrick has shifted her influence to advocate for a healthy lifestyle and fitness. She frequently shares her workout routines and dietary habits with her followers, promoting clean eating despite her personal struggle with high cholesterol.

Some conservative voices online have found Patrick’s critique of Swift’s endorsement compelling. One social media user shared a video reposted by Patrick that read, “Dear Swifities voting for Kamala just because Taylor endorsed her. May I remind you that 90% of her hit songs are about choosing the wrong person.”

This isn’t Patrick’s first time commenting on political matters. She has regularly voiced her support for conservative causes and often shares posts that criticize Democratic policies and figures.

Patrick’s racing career was notable for many pioneering achievements. She was the first woman to win an IndyCar race and achieved a third-place finish at the Indianapolis 500, the highest position ever by a female driver. Following her retirement from racing, Patrick delved into media, working as an analyst for Sky Sports F1 and NBC’s coverage of the Indianapolis 500.

Besides her media career, Patrick has also succeeded as an entrepreneur. She introduced a sportswear line named Warrior by Danica Patrick and a wine label named Somnium, the Latin term for ‘dream’.

While Swift’s team has yet to directly respond to Patrick’s comments, the incident has reignited the debate about the impact of celebrity endorsements on public opinion and their potential influence on voter behavior.
