Veteran “Wheel of Fortune” co-host, Vanna White, has recently opened up on her initial concerns about working with Ryan Seacrest, the game show’s new host as of September 9. Having worked with Pat Sajak for over 40 years, White confessed to her initial trepidation about the transition, but has found increasing comfort in her new on-screen relationship with Seacrest.
In a frank interview, White, 67, revealed her worries about adjusting to a new co-host after her long-standing collaboration with Pat Sajak. Reflecting on her partnership with Seacrest, she expressed contentment with their on-screen chemistry. She initially felt uncertain about the shift, given her long-standing working relationship with Sajak. However, despite her early fears, White recognized Seacrest’s excellent performance as the new host.
The shift was initiated when Pat Sajak announced his retirement from “Wheel of Fortune” in June 2023, signaling the end of his tenure as host which spanned 41 seasons. Following the announcement, Seacrest was unveiled as Sajak’s successor, having signed a multi-year contract to host the popular show.
Despite her initial concerns, White has applauded Seacrest’s handling of his new role. In an exclusive People magazine interview, she commended her new co-host, stating, “He’s professional, he’s kind, he’s hard-working. We’ve known each other for 20 years, so I think he’s a good fit.”
Interestingly, White and Seacrest share a connection that predates their current professional relationship. Both have a link to Merv Griffin, the creator of “Wheel of Fortune.” White revealed an intriguing story about their first meeting: “We actually sat next to each other at Merv’s funeral. That’s where we met.” This unexpected meeting occurred in 2007 when Griffin passed away.
As White and Seacrest, 49, start their new journey on “Wheel of Fortune,” they have been working diligently to build their on-screen rapport. White shared that they have been traveling together for the show in recent months, enabling them to understand each other better. This shared experience off-camera appears to be enhancing their on-screen interactions.
Seacrest has shown immense enthusiasm about joining the show and working with White. Following the announcement of his new role, Seacrest demonstrated deep humility in following in the respected footsteps of Pat Sajak. He acknowledged, along with the rest of the country, the joy and privilege of watching Pat and Vanna on television screens for an exceptional four decades, bringing smiles to viewers every night.
The mutual respect between White and Seacrest is evident. Seacrest has openly expressed his admiration for White, underscoring that “Wheel of Fortune” would not be the same without her. He has described their time together on set as captivating, suggesting a hopeful start to their professional partnership.
As “Wheel of Fortune” transitions into this new phase, viewers can expect changes beyond the hosting duo. In a recent interview, Seacrest revealed that a new set design would coincide with his debut as host.
White’s dedication to the show is clear, as demonstrated by her recent contract extension. She has committed to continue as co-host until at least the 2025-2026 season, providing a familiar face for viewers amidst the changes. She has been a part of the show since 1982 when she initially joined as a model before becoming the familiar letter-turner and co-host that audiences have recognized for decades.
Seacrest brings a vast amount of hosting experience to his new role. His television hosting career, which began in 1993, includes major productions such as “American Idol,” “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” “LIVE With Kelly and Ryan,” and “E! News.” His extensive experience in live television and audience engagement is expected to serve him well as he takes on the iconic role of “Wheel of Fortune” host.
