In a recent discussion with “Entertainment Tonight,” Ben Affleck voiced unexpected admiration for Jennifer Lopez’s role in their forthcoming film “Unstoppable,” despite their ongoing divorce case.
Affleck, a 52-year-old actor and director who also works as a producer on the sports drama through his Artists Equity production company, stated “Jennifer is spectacular,” while promoting another project with Matt Damon and Cillian Murphy.
“Unstoppable is quite distinct from this, but it also originates from the passion of highly skilled artists,” Affleck expressed. “Goldenberg, Jennifer, Don Cheadle, Jharrel, and Bobby Cannavale – all displayed great passion for this film.”
The film, directed by William Goldenberg, casts Lopez as Judy Robles, the mother to Arizona State University wrestler Anthony Robles, played by Jharrel Jerome. The true-to-life story portrays Anthony’s journey as a one-legged champion athlete.
When queried about Affleck’s remarks, Lopez responded tactfully, attributing the film’s success to the combined efforts of the entire cast and crew.
The professional exchange occurs amidst their divorce proceedings, which started when Lopez, 55, submitted papers in August 2024, exactly two years after their wedding celebration at Affleck’s property near Savannah, Georgia. The pair initially exchanged vows at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 16, 2022.
Affleck and Lopez’s relationship history dates back over two decades, beginning when they met on the set of “Gigli” in 2001. Their first engagement in 2002 ended in 2004, leading to separate marriages – Affleck to Jennifer Garner and Lopez to Marc Anthony. Their relationship rekindled in April 2021 following Lopez’s separation from Alex Rodriguez.
Despite the ongoing divorce, the ex-couple continues to maintain professional ties via “Unstoppable,” which is scheduled for theatrical release on December 6. The film is a collaborative project under Artists Equity, the production company founded by Affleck and longtime friend Matt Damon.
The former pair shares a blended family. Lopez has 16-year-old twins Max and Emme from her marriage to Marc Anthony, while Affleck is a father to three children with Jennifer Garner: Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.
