Dr. Kelly Powers, a renowned podiatric surgeon and consistent medical commentator for Fox News, passed away at her home in Colts Neck, New Jersey on December 1, 2024, succumbing to brain cancer at the age of 45.

Born in Yonkers, New York, Powers was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a severe type of brain cancer, in 2020. She underwent numerous brain surgeries, radiation treatments, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy during her medical journey.

Alongside her thriving medical practice, Powers was a regular face on Fox News programs such as “Red Eye, Fox & Friends,” and “The Willis Report on Fox Business.” She also lent her expertise as a medical authority on CNN, NBC, and CBS.

According to her obituary, “Kelly was an accomplished doctor and surgeon with numerous media appearances. Above all, her family was her greatest joy.”

Powers held a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco and completed residencies at Georgetown University and Boston University. She offered insight into the COVID-19 pandemic, providing regular updates on virus progress and vaccine research.

Powers faced a previous health scare when she had heart failure while live on “Fox Business.” Recalling the incident in an interview with Preferred Health Magazine, she said “It’s crazy – I went into heart failure while doing a report on Fox Business – live – on heart health and talking about the subtle signs that women often miss. You can’t make this up.”

Despite her health struggles, Powers and her spouse, Steven Doll, became parents to their son Bennett in 2021 through surrogacy. After her initial cancer treatment seemed successful, she referred to herself as “the luckiest unlucky girl.”

When her cancer resurfaced in 2024, friends initiated fundraising campaigns to finance experimental treatment options in Germany, which were not covered by her insurance.

The type of cancer that ended Powers’ life is on the rise, with medical experts predicting a 72% rise in glioblastoma cases by 2050. The surge is linked to factors such as an aging population, increased exposure to pollution, toxic chemicals, and medical imaging.

Apart from her contributions to medicine and television, Powers had a range of interests including gardening, surfing, ballet, biking, running, horseback riding, and travel.

A memorial service was held on Friday, December 6 at 11 a.m. at Tower Hill Church in Red Bank, New Jersey. She is survived by her husband, son, parents, and in-laws. Her family has requested that in lieu of traditional offerings, donations be made to Stache Strong, a non-profit organization dedicated to brain cancer research.
