On the early morning of December 25, 2024, a deadly shooting took place outside an IHOP restaurant in Miramar, Florida. This incident resulted in the deaths of two women while a man was left injured and hospitalized. The event unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in the restaurant’s parking lot, located at 11302 Miramar Parkway.
Miramar, a city situated in southern Broward County near the Miami-Dade County border, is recognized for its diverse communities, family-oriented neighborhoods, and prospering business districts.
Upon receiving reports of shots fired, Miramar Police officers arrived at the scene and found three adults suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where the two female victims were declared dead. The male victim, who is not a suspect and is under police watch, continues to receive medical treatment. Authorities anticipate that he will assist in the ongoing investigation.
Through their investigation, the authorities have established that the victims and the perpetrator were acquainted, and the shooting was not random. “We want to reassure the public that this wasn’t a random act of violence,” stated Janice McIntosh, the spokeswoman for the Miramar Police Department.
Forensic experts spent the morning meticulously examining the crime scene for evidence. They employed metal detectors and flashlights to meticulously search nearby bushes and gathered several shell casings from the crime scene. As part of the investigation, two vehicles—a black BMW and a white Acura showing visible blood stains and a bullet hole—were removed from the parking lot.
The IHOP, a 24-hour establishment popular among locals, was open at the time of the shooting. Police officers questioned patrons present during the incident to collect more information.
While the identities of the victims remain undisclosed, the police have confirmed that they are not seeking any additional suspects at the moment but declined to provide further details.
This shooting incident contributes to a recent string of violent occurrences in Miramar. In October, a shooting outside a Dunkin’ Donuts on Miramar Parkway resulted in one fatality and another injury. The motive for this incident is still under investigation.
In September, a murder-suicide in the gated Windsor Palms community resulted in two deaths. A 43-year-old man allegedly shot a 40-year-old woman before ending his own life.
Despite these recent incidents, Miramar is generally considered as safer compared to many neighboring communities. However, these events have understandably increased public safety concerns.
