Soni Dimond, a celebrated broadcaster and morning show host at ABC27 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has passed away at the age of 67. Dimond suffered a cardiac arrest on December 27, 2024, and died on January 9, 2025.
Often referring to herself as a “60-something Queenager,” Dimond was well-known for her “Vibrant Living” segment on “Good Day PA.” Through this, she aimed to motivate viewers to live life to its maximum potential.
According to an ABC27 News statement, Dimond’s energetic, warm, and zealous spirit will be sorely missed. However, her legacy of joy and commitment remains.
Dimond’s television career started in 1978 as an intern at WTPA-TV 27, which is now known as ABC27. She quickly ascended the ranks to become the station’s first weekend news anchor within a year. ABC27’s Executive Digital Producer, George Stockburger, fondly recalled the glamour and energy Dimond brought to the studio.
Dimond switched gears in the 1980s, transitioning from television news to entrepreneurship when she established Soni Dimond Media. The firm, specializing in fashion and lifestyle public relations, was awarded the Best 50 Women in Business in Pennsylvania Award in 2003.
In 2018, Dimond returned to ABC27 part-time to host “Good Day PA” segments. It was there she created “Vibrant Living,” a feature aimed at inspiring senior citizens to live with enthusiasm.
Amy Kehm, a co-anchor on “Good Day PA,” spoke about the lasting influence of Soni, stating that her energy and joy were perfectly reflected in “Vibrant Living”. Kehm mentioned that knowing Soni had a transformative effect on her life, adding, “It seems almost poetic that she carried the name Dimond because she truly lit up every room.”
In her ABC27 biography, Dimond expressed her love for inspiring her “Vibrant Living” audience. She took pleasure in creating engaging stories with her husband, Kevin Martorana’s team at Take One Productions, Inc. in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Dimond’s passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes on social media, with viewers and colleagues sharing their memories of her influence on their lives.
Dimond had a unique approach to broadcasting, seeing her role as both a host and motivator. Her segment became known for its uplifting content and genuine connection with viewers.
Dimond is survived by her husband, Kevin Martorana. Her legacy at ABC27 extends beyond her roles as anchor and host, capturing her pioneering spirit as one of the station’s first female anchors and her enduring impact on engaging with senior viewers.
ABC27 plans to commemorate her contributions to local broadcasting and her passion for the community with special programming. Dimond’s funeral will take place on January 17 at Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Harrisburg Street in Oberlin, Pennsylvania.
