Wheel of Fortune Host Falls to Floor

Ryan Seacrest, host of “Wheel of Fortune,” took an unexpected fall in the episode aired on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The host was knocked off his feet during a particularly vigorous celebration by one of the contestants.

The contestant, Daniel Thomas from San Marcos, California, is an enthusiast of coastal road trips that he often takes with his father. He was competing against two other contestants, Amaryllis and Dina, in a rather memorable episode. Thomas showed an impressive gameplay, winning a total of $31,950 in cash and a luxurious trip to Alaska worth over $11,000, to watch the Northern Lights.

During the bonus round, Thomas was up against a seven-letter puzzle under the category “Living Things.” Initially, only two letters, ‘E’ and ‘S,’ were revealed in the last squares. However, Thomas managed to make a series of strategic guesses and when two ‘P’s appeared on the board, he successfully identified the word as “Guppies” in the nick of time.

With the correct answer, Thomas added $40,000 to his total winnings, taking it to $71,950. The victory caused him to jump up and down in joy and in the process, he unintentionally knocked Seacrest, 50, off his feet. Seacrest fell backward onto the studio floor, with his feet in the air.

Upon realizing what had occurred, Thomas immediately assisted Seacrest to his feet, repeatedly asking if he was alright. Seacrest quickly responded, “I’m fine, no you’re good. I’m okay,” but was later spotted holding his back and appeared to be in slight discomfort. He even made a light-hearted remark to co-host Vanna White, saying, “Vanna, you’ll have to take over now!” and playfully hid behind the podium when Thomas’ family member approached for a hug.

“I don’t know. I was just looking at the letter board, and I saw ‘P.’ It just popped into my head. But again, I’m so sorry,” Thomas said, comforting Seacrest after the incident.

Despite the fall, Seacrest maintained his composure and humor. “Pick me up, throw me over, tackle me, I’m totally fine with it,” he later commented, playfully encouraging future contestants.

The show’s announcer, Jim Thornton, humorously noted the incident while confirming Thomas’ bonus round win of $40,000. When Seacrest hugged Thomas in congratulations, he made sure to keep his balance.

Even before the fall, the episode was already eventful with an unusually high number of contestants landing on the Bankrupt wedge. This prompted Seacrest to remark to viewers, “If you’re just joining us to Wheel of Bankrupt, welcome!” Thomas’ impressive win came despite only three letters being revealed in the bonus round puzzle.

The moment was shared on the show’s Instagram and YouTube accounts, quickly gaining popularity online. The event sparked a blend of amusement and concern from viewers. Many commented on the unexpected fall and expressed admiration for both Seacrest and the impressive puzzle solve by Thomas.

Several viewers humorously debated if the puzzle solve or the celebratory fall was more impressive. Some stressed the importance of keeping Seacrest safe, while others offered advice to future contestants to avoid knocking over the host. The incident was widely discussed on social media, resulting in a mix of humor and genuine concern for Seacrest.

This episode also showcased the changes to the show since Seacrest took over from the previous host, Pat Sajak. The updated set features a blue-toned stage, a green screen, and an art-deco wheel design. Seacrest and White now make their entrances through new brightly lit sliding doors. The traditional puzzle board has been replaced with a modern digital version controlled by lasers. The show’s prizes have also been upgraded to include NFL games and A-list concert tickets.
