Border Czar Fires Back at MSNBC Host

Tom Homan, the former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director during the Trump administration, made headlines when he criticized MSNBC host Joy Reid on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime,” labeling her “dumber than a box of rocks.” His comments were in response to Reid’s description of recent nationwide immigration raids as “performative.”

Homan defended the raids, pointing out that more than 4,500 violent criminals have been arrested since last Thursday. According to Homan, these arrests included convicted murderers, gang members, and child sex predators. He asserted that these operations were directly targeting violent illegal immigrants, thereby enhancing the safety of communities.

During his interview, Homan sent a clear message to Reid and other critics of the immigration crackdown: “They need to get out of the way because we’re not going to stop.” He made it clear that despite opposition, the enforcement operations will persist.

The controversy was stirred up when Reid and New York Attorney General Letitia James, on MSNBC, criticized the raids as reckless. Reid’s dismissal of the operations as “performative” triggered Homan’s strong response on the Fox News program. He countered this portrayal of the raids as mere theater by pointing to the arrest of dangerous criminals, emphasizing the tangible impact of such operations.

Homan justified the intensified enforcement efforts by highlighting what he claimed as a 3,500% increase in people on terrorist watch lists under the Biden administration. He argued that such operations were crucial for preventing fentanyl-related deaths and combating sex trafficking. As the former ICE director, Homan stated that these raids were part of a comprehensive strategy to secure the border and protect American communities.

These enforcement activities occurred in the context of wider discussions about immigration policy. In the final year of the Biden administration, over 271,000 immigrants were deported despite criticism that the administration was too lenient on immigration. Numerous deportations took place amidst claims of a soft stance on border security.

Reid, known for her regular commentary on Trump administration policies, recently took a salary cut to retain her position at MSNBC. Her vocal opposition to Trump-era immigration policies has drawn criticism from media analysts but has also made her a notable figure on her network.

The exchange between Homan and Reid underscores the ongoing debate over immigration enforcement strategies. The nationwide operations have led to thousands of arrests across various jurisdictions, with ICE focusing on individuals with criminal records. These operations continue, sparking further conversations about the efficacy and direction of current immigration enforcement policies.
