Kamala Harris’ Big Comeback

Ex-Vice President Kamala Harris has joined forces with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), her first key decision since her loss in the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump. This move is part of Harris’ careful planning for her future career while maintaining a visible presence in public life.

According to the agency announcement, CAA will be actively involved with Harris in her post-presidential operations, devising strategic opportunities to broaden her platform in alignment with the issues she has long advocated in her public service career.

Signing with CAA brings Harris back to the Century City-based representation powerhouse that previously represented her from 2017 to 2020, before she took up the vice presidency. Harris created history as the first woman, first Black American, and first South Asian American to be elected Vice President of the United States. Her earlier collaboration with CAA was beneficial, as it preceded her successful vice-presidential campaign and rise in national politics.

The nature of Harris’ recent presidential campaign sheds light on her current career shift. Following President Biden’s departure from the race after a poorly received debate performance, Harris took over the campaign on August 5, with only three months to reallocate a $1 billion campaign fund in her contest against Trump.

Anticipating her post-White House career, Harris has established a California-based LLC called Pioneer49. This business entity is expected to provide a foundation for her future ventures, whether in politics or the private sector. Harris is reportedly planning to spend the upcoming months consulting with close aides, allies, and family members to decide her next steps.

CAA’s co-chiefs, Richard Lovett, Bryan Lourd, and Kevin Huvane, well-known supporters of the Biden-Harris re-election campaign, will concentrate on securing speaking assignments and publishing opportunities for Harris. This development follows Joe Biden’s signing with CAA two weeks earlier. During Biden’s previous engagement with the agency from 2017 to 2020, he published his #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, “Promise Me, Dad,” and conducted a nationwide speaking tour.

Harris has previously published two successful books: “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey” in 2019 and “Smart on Crime: A Career Prosecutor’s Plan to Make Us Safer” in 2009. Both books served as memoirs and launching pads for her presidential campaign. While no new publishing deal has been announced yet, industry watchers expect potential projects in the works.

CAA currently represents several prominent political figures through its speakers bureau, including Sen. Joe Manchin, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Beto O’Rourke, Andrew Yang, and David Plouffe. The agency also manages Higher Ground, the production company of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, which has produced multiple TV shows, films, and podcasts.

One of Harris’ first significant public appearances since the election will be at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, on February 22, 2025, where she will receive the NAACP Chairman’s Award. The event, to be broadcast on CBS, honors individuals who excel in public service and effectively use their unique platforms to instigate and drive substantial change.

As Harris ponders her political future, recent surveys, including an Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics/The Hill survey, suggest promising prospects, positioning her as a potential frontrunner for the California governorship in 2026.

In the immediate future, Harris and her husband must make practical decisions, such as choosing a permanent residence and arranging security after her Secret Service protection ends. Her advisors are also working out the details of how and when she will speak out against former President Trump and reestablish her role in the Democratic Party.
