Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, addressed social media last weekend to defend him following a New York Magazine profile that described the president’s son negatively.
The profile, within a broader article titled “How Donald Trump Jr. Brought Elon Musk Into MAGA,” included a statement from a Palm Beach, Florida, insider who questioned Anderson’s choice of partner. The source labeled Trump Jr. as the “most despised member of the family; he’s an asshole, a spoiled heir.”
Anderson, 38, reacted on her Instagram story, stating “That’s my guy” alongside a screenshot of the article. “DEFINITELY an ‘insider’ VERY familiar with @donaldtrumpjr,” she added, using laughing emojis to express her disbelief at the portrayal.
Continuing her response, the Palm Beach socialite criticized the anonymous sources as “cowards” for their anonymity and shared a quote: “Rumors are started by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
Anderson further defended Trump Jr., describing him as “the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful and brilliant person I have ever known,” contrasting the magazine’s depiction.
Trump Jr. also responded to the article on his Instagram, stating, “Don’t get me wrong, I can totally be an asshole when I need to be… if you’re adversarial to my friends, my family, my country, MAGA, etc.,” and challenged the source to “man up” and disclose their identity.
The couple, who started dating in late 2024, has received increased media attention following Trump Jr.’s separation from his former fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle. Their relationship was revealed in December, shortly before Trump Jr. confirmed his breakup with Guilfoyle.
Reports indicate that Trump Jr. and Anderson had been seeing each other for several months before officially announcing his split from Guilfoyle. Trump Jr. introduced Anderson as his girlfriend during a trip to Alaska while still engaged to Guilfoyle.
The breakup between Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle was reportedly amicable. Trump Jr. commended Guilfoyle’s contributions to his father’s political movement and acknowledged her continued role as the U.S. ambassador to Greece, a position she was nominated for by President Donald Trump after his 2024 election victory.
Sources close to the couple have described Trump Jr. as “smitten” with Anderson. One insider told Us Magazine they are “super cute and happy together,” while noting Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle had experienced difficulties over the past year, arguing publicly at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
The New York Magazine profile that led to the controversy goes beyond Trump Jr.’s personal life. The article explores his transformation from a perceived “failson” to a key political figure within the Trump family and the MAGA movement.
The article details Trump Jr.’s role as a link between his father and influential Silicon Valley figures like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel. It also examines his connections with political figures like Tulsi Gabbard and J.D. Vance, as well as his business ventures, including a cryptocurrency project with his father.
The article also addresses Trump Jr.’s involvement in the January 6th events at the U.S. Capitol and his subsequent rise in conservative political circles, portraying him as a significant influence within the Trump administration. This includes his role in persuading Elon Musk to develop a social media platform supporting MAGA.
Meanwhile, Guilfoyle has expressed her intention to maintain a relationship with Trump Jr. despite their separation. According to sources cited by Economic Times, she values their shared history, mutual friends, and continued participation in the Trump political movement.
Following the responses to the New York Magazine article, both Trump Jr. and Anderson have resumed their regular social media activities. Anderson recently shared a Donatella Versace quote about elegance, while Trump Jr. continues to promote his father’s presidency as the “golden age of America.”
