Young Mom Shot Dead in McDonald’s

A 25-year-old mother was shot and killed inside a McDonald’s in Brandon, Mississippi, on Monday, June 16, 2025. Police have described the event as a domestic violence incident resulting in a murder-suicide.

Kianna Jackson, from Pearl, Mississippi, was fatally shot around 7 p.m. at the McDonald’s on Stribling Lane in Brandon, roughly 10 miles from Jackson, Mississippi. The incident occurred in front of her two children, ages five and three.

The alleged shooter, identified by police as 27-year-old Jhonterryes Dampier of Mendenhall, Mississippi, reportedly fired his weapon inside the restaurant before shooting himself. Brandon Police Chief Joseph French stated that officers arrived around 6:51 p.m. to find Jackson deceased and Dampier with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dampier was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries two days later, on Wednesday, June 18. The Rankin County Coroner’s Office confirmed his death and identified Jackson as the victim on Tuesday, June 17.

Reports suggest that Jackson and Dampier shared the two children. Their relationship was described as domestic, but police have not disclosed specific details regarding the motive for the incident.

Brandon Mayor Butch Lee commented on the situation, noting its devastating nature due to the presence of children. He mentioned that the community’s thoughts and prayers are with those connected to the incident.

In the weeks leading up to the shooting, warning signs may have been observed. Justin Taylor, owner of a local TV mounting business, mentioned being at the couple’s home to install a TV roughly two weeks earlier. He noted sensing tension between Jackson and Dampier but did not intervene. Taylor later expressed regret, indicating concern about their dynamic.

Another witness, Billie Shantay McCune-Kidd, described a prior encounter with Jackson shortly before the shooting. McCune-Kidd recounted their children playing together at a nearby park, where Jackson suggested exchanging contact information for future playdates. Jackson mentioned plans to return to school for nursing and was going to get food with her children after leaving the park.

McCune-Kidd’s niece wanted to join Jackson and her children, but they had other plans. Just five minutes later, Jackson was killed. McCune-Kidd, delayed by a car issue, arrived to see emergency vehicles, not realizing the woman she had just met was the victim.

Jackson’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral and burial expenses, with surplus funds intended for a trust for her children. The page describes Jackson as “a cherished mother that’s leaving behind two beautiful children.” As of July 1, the campaign has raised over $21,000 of its $22,000 goal.

The family’s GoFundMe page further described Jackson as a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, expressing their wish to honor her life with an appropriate memorial and support for her children during this time.

O’Ferrall Management Group, owner of the McDonald’s location where the shooting took place, released a statement expressing deep sadness over the incident. The company stated that it is providing support to employees and assisting law enforcement with the investigation.

Chief French confirmed the incident appears to be isolated, posing no ongoing threat to the public. The Brandon Police Department is continuing the investigation, though formal charges cannot be pursued due to Dampier’s death.
