Quenton Marselles Brown, the father of Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, was arrested and charged with attempted murder on August 21, following a stabbing incident at All American Park in Las Vegas on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The 57-year-old Brown was taken into custody after allegedly stabbing a youth football coach multiple times during a dispute that began over a parking space incident. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to reports of the stabbing at approximately 5:42 p.m. local time on South Buffalo Drive.
According to witness accounts detailed in the police report, the altercation began when Brown, who was driving an SUV, parked next to the victim’s vehicle. A passenger in Brown’s SUV allegedly opened their door and dinged the victim’s car. When the victim, identified as Cross Tupoula, got out to inspect the damage, he was immediately confronted by Brown.
The verbal confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Witnesses reported that the victim slapped the side mirror of Brown’s SUV during the heated exchange. The victim’s girlfriend told police she observed Brown pull out an unknown object and stab Tupoula in the back. Another witness provided a chilling account, telling police that Brown “swung his knife 25 times” at the victim.
The victim sustained severe injuries from the attack. Medical personnel at the treating hospital documented that Tupoula suffered a stab wound in the middle of his back, a stab wound in his upper right chest clavicle area, a defensive wound to his left hand that penetrated to his tendons, a slice wound that required a partial gastrectomy to remove part of his digestive system, eviscerated bowels, and a broken right rib.
Following the stabbing, Tupoula and his girlfriend managed to drive away from the scene and waited in a different location for first responders. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition. Police indicated that Tupoula is recovering successfully from his injuries.
Brown initially fled the scene after the stabbing but was located and arrested a short distance away. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Thursday morning, August 21, on charges of attempted murder. During his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon, bail was set at $300,000.
Brown was released from custody on August 27, 2025, after posting his $300,000 bail. He is now subject to electronic monitoring and has been ordered to “stay out of trouble” as a condition of his release. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 9, 2025.
Brown’s legal representation has maintained that their client was acting in self-defense during the incident. The elder Brown, who goes by his middle name Marselles, is a retired professional boxer who made his debut in 1989 and compiled a record of 33-18-1 during his career.
The victim’s family has launched a fundraising campaign to help with medical expenses and physical therapy costs. Tupoula serves as a youth football coach in the Las Vegas area, and the incident occurred before a scheduled football practice at the park.
Jaylen Brown, a four-time NBA All-Star and the 2024 Finals MVP, was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2016 and helped lead the team to its 18th NBA championship in 2024. The younger Brown and his father are not believed to have a close relationship.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the incident. Multiple news outlets confirmed through records searches that Quenton Marselles Brown is indeed the father of the Celtics star.
This case marks a significant legal challenge for the elder Brown, who now faces serious felony charges that could result in substantial prison time if convicted. The attempted murder charge stems from the severity of the victim’s injuries and the alleged nature of the attack as described by witnesses at the scene.
