Dylan Walsh, the 61-year-old actor best known for his role on “Nip/Tuck,” was involved in a serious car accident with his family members on Sunday, August 17, in Rumson, New Jersey. The crash sent two people to the hospital and resulted in Walsh receiving multiple traffic citations.
According to the Rumson Police Department, Walsh was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer with four other family members when the vehicle veered from the northbound lane into the southbound lane on East River Road around 5 p.m. The SUV crashed through one utility pole before continuing northbound and colliding with a second utility pole.
Two of the passengers in the vehicle complained of pain following the crash and were transported to Riverview Medical Center for treatment. Police Lieutenant Christopher Isherwood confirmed the sequence of events to local media outlets. Walsh was subsequently issued several motor vehicle summonses, though specific infractions have not been disclosed by authorities.
Photos of the accident scene obtained by media outlets showed significant damage to the front of the Explorer, with both front airbags deployed and a major dent in the trunk. The collision caused eight residents in the area to lose power temporarily, though electricity was later restored after Jersey Central Power & Light replaced the damaged utility poles.
Walsh’s representative confirmed the incident and provided an update on the family’s condition. “Thankfully, everyone is safe and has since returned home,” the statement read. The family expressed gratitude for the swift response of the Rumson Police, Fire Department, and EMS, as well as the staff at Riverview Medical Center for their care. They also extended special thanks to the management and staff of The River Point Inn for their support immediately following the accident.
Walsh’s wife, Leslie Bourque-Walsh, addressed the accident in Facebook posts that have since been deleted. According to local news outlets, she described the crash as occurring while the family was en route to breakfast. She thanked first responders and medical personnel, noting that the family was grateful for seatbelts and airbags, which she credited with saving their lives. Bourque-Walsh indicated the family sustained some bruising from seatbelts and apologized for any inconvenience caused to residents who lost power.
In a subsequent Facebook post, Bourque-Walsh paid tribute to the family’s damaged vehicle, describing how it had driven them on memorable road trips from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Rumson, New Jersey. She acknowledged that while it was just a car, many memories were attached to it.
Walsh and Bourque-Walsh, who married in 2022, are parents to 13-year-old daughter Amelie Belle and 12-year-old son Hudson Scott. The actor also has adult children from previous marriages, including Thomas and Joanna with ex-wife Melora Walters, and daughter Stella with ex-wife Joanna Going. It remains unclear which family members were present in the vehicle during the crash.
Beyond his starring role in “Nip/Tuck”, Walsh has appeared in numerous television series and films. His recent television work includes roles as General Sam Lane on “Superman & Lois” and Mayor Peter Chase on “Blue Bloods.” He also starred as Al Burns on “Unforgettable” and appeared in films including “The Stepfather” and “The Lake House.”
The Rumson Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the single-vehicle accident. The intersection where the crash occurred was closed through Tuesday morning while utility crews completed repairs and pole replacements. All damaged infrastructure has since been restored, and the roadway has reopened to normal traffic.
