J.Lo Snubbed: Refused Entry to Store

Jennifer Lopez, the renowned singer and actress, was reportedly denied entry to a Chanel store in Istanbul, Turkey, on Monday, August 4, 2025. The incident occurred while she was shopping at the high-end Istinye Park mall before her concert in the Turkish city.

As reported by the Turkish media outlet Turkiye Today, a security guard at the Chanel boutique refused entry to Lopez, citing that the store had reached full capacity. The 56-year-old artist, who was dressed in a baby pink ensemble with matching sunglasses, took the situation in stride.

Lopez reportedly remarked, “Okay, no problem,” and left the area without exhibiting any visible signs of displeasure.

Subsequently, Chanel employees invited Lopez back to the store, but she declined. Instead, Lopez spent about three hours visiting nearby luxury retailers, including the French brand Celine and Turkish retailer Beymen, reportedly purchasing merchandise worth tens of thousands of dollars.

This incident took place a day before Lopez’s planned performance at Yenikapi Festival Park during the Istanbul Festival on August 5, 2025. Her concert was part of the “Up All Night: Live in 2025” summer tour, which started on July 8 in Pontevedra, Spain.

Lopez visited Turkey earlier in 2025, performing at the Regnum Carya Resort Hotel in Antalya on July 23 and celebrating her 56th birthday there the next day. She shared her gratitude for the warm reception from Turkish fans on Instagram.

The Chanel store at Istinye Park has received criticism for its security measures. Online reviews rate the location at 2.9 out of 5 on Google, with many complaints regarding the behavior of security personnel. Customers frequently describe the security staff as rude and unwelcoming.

Reality TV star Bethenny Frankel commented on the event via TikTok, drawing parallels to her own experience of being denied access to a Chanel store in Chicago, Illinois, in May 2024. Frankel criticized the brand’s elitism and suggested policy changes for how security handles potential customers.

One Insider suggested that Chanel’s leadership was embarrassed by the incident and issued an alleged private apology to Lopez. High-ranking individuals connected to the Wertheimer family, owners of Chanel, were reportedly dismayed to hear about the encounter, viewing the refusal to admit Lopez as poor business practice.

Neither Lopez’s nor Chanel’s representatives responded to requests for comment from various media outlets covering the incident.

Lopez’s international tour continued with performances in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on August 10, and concluded in Sardinia, Italy, on August 12. Following the tour, she is set to star in the film adaptation of “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” directed by Bill Condon, which will be released in theaters on October 10, 2025.
