President Donald Trump made waves when he declared that all of his children could have futures in politics, sparking fresh speculation about a potential Trump dynasty extending beyond his second term in the White House.
During an exclusive interview with Miranda Devine of the New York Post on her podcast, “Pod Force One,” released on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Trump stated that he believes all of them probably have a future in politics. When asked specifically about his eldest son potentially running for president, Trump praised each of his children individually, calling Donald Trump Jr. a good guy and an outdoorsman, and saying Eric Trump has done a fantastic job.
Eric Trump, 41, has been the most vocal about potential presidential ambitions among the siblings. The co-executive vice president of the Trump Organization told the Financial Times in July that pursuing the presidency would be manageable for family members. He told the outlet that he thinks the political path would be an easy one and that other family members could follow suit. However, Eric acknowledged the personal cost of public life, questioning whether he would want his kids to endure the same experiences over the last decade that he has lived through. When pressed further at the Bitcoin Asia 2025 conference in Hong Kong on August 29, Eric told Nikkei Asia that he would never rule out a presidential run, but he’s neither saying no nor saying yes. Eric also expressed frustration with current politicians, telling the Financial Times he’s wholly unimpressed by half the politicians he sees and believes he could do the job very effectively.
Donald Trump Jr., 47, has gained significant traction with younger voters despite publicly stating he has no interest in running for office. A YouGov survey showed that over 25 percent of Republicans and right-leaning independents under 30 years old picked Trump Jr. as their ideal choice to lead the Republican ticket in 2028. The poll also found that 53 percent of voters aged 18 to 29 and 55 percent aged 30 to 44 said they would consider voting for Trump Jr. in the next Republican primary. Despite these numbers, Trump Jr. posted on his X account that he had zero interest in running for office in 2028 or anytime soon. He currently hosts a biweekly podcast called Triggered With Don Jr., where he discusses political issues.
Both Donald Jr. and Eric played key roles in convincing their father to select Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his vice presidential running mate. When President Trump appeared to be leaning toward North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, the brothers pushed back and insisted on Vance. The family’s political involvement has shifted notably in Trump’s second administration. Ivanka Trump, 43, and her husband Jared Kushner, who served as White House advisers during Trump’s first term, have stepped away from politics entirely. In 2022, Ivanka announced she was choosing to prioritize her young children and the private life they are creating as a family, stating she did not plan to be involved in politics.
Meanwhile, Barron Trump, now 19 years old and studying at New York University’s Stern School of Business, has emerged as an unexpected influence on his father’s political strategy. President Trump credited his youngest son with recommending appearances on podcasts aimed at younger male voters, including “The Joe Rogan Experience,” “This Past Weekend with Theo Von,” and Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive.” Barron was also involved in his father’s cryptocurrency venture World Liberty Financial, which launched in September 2024, serving as an ambassador for the project alongside his older brothers. Many Republicans now view Barron as a potential future political player due to his understanding of youth culture and digital finance.
The prospect of a Trump political dynasty faces competition from other prominent Republicans. Vice President JD Vance leads polls as the preferred 2028 Republican candidate, with 42 percent of Republicans and right-leaning independents viewing him as the best fit. Donald Trump Jr. came in second with 13 percent support, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with 7 percent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with 5 percent. LBC US politics reporter Simon Marks noted that the family seems to be dreaming of a dynasty, which raises questions for Vice President Vance, who may face discomfort in 2028. Marks added that Don Jr. is more likely to run, but Eric Trump may be more palatable to voters, though much will depend on how successful President Trump’s second term proves to be by the time of the 2027 primary contests.
Eric Trump currently serves as trustee and executive vice president of the Trump Organization. His wife, Lara Trump, a former co-chair of the Republican National Committee, now hosts the Fox News show “My View with Lara Trump.” Trump family members and key allies had pushed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump to the Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio when he was appointed Secretary of State. DeSantis eventually chose Ashley Moody.
When asked if 2024 would be the last Trump-family election, Eric stated he didn’t know and that time would tell, adding that there are more people than just him. The Trump Organization’s value now sits somewhere between $8 billion and $12 billion, according to Eric, while President Trump’s stake in Trump Media & Technology Group is estimated to be worth $2 billion.
