Beloved Actor and Wife Found Stabbed to Death

The son of legendary Hollywood actor and director Rob Reiner has been booked on suspicion of murder following the deaths of his father and mother, who were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, that Nick Reiner was being held on $4 million bail. However, his bail was revoked, and he is now being held without bail.

Police responded to the Reiner residence on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:38 p.m. on Sunday after receiving a call for assistance. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Rob Reiner, 78 years old, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68 years old. Both victims had suffered stab wounds, according to sources close to the investigation.

The couple’s daughter found her parents’ bodies and alerted authorities. Detectives from the LAPD’s elite Robbery-Homicide Division immediately launched an investigation into what appeared to be a double homicide. Officers secured the scene and obtained a search warrant for the home. The victims’ throats had been slashed.

Nick Reiner was arrested at 9:15 p.m. Sunday and booked into custody at 5:04 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2025. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell addressed reporters during an unrelated news conference Monday, confirming the arrest. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the Reiners,” McDonnell said. “A tragic incident.”

Nick checked into the Pierside Hotel Santa Monica early Sunday morning. Hotel staff allegedly discovered a shower full of blood, blood on the bed, and bedsheets covering windows when they entered the room.

The incident followed a reported loud argument between Rob and Nick Reiner at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party Saturday evening. Multiple attendees noticed tensions between father and son.

Nick is the biological son of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. They married in 1989, and Nick was born on September 14, 1993.

Nick Reiner has been open about his long struggle with drug addiction, which began during his teenage years. His personal battles with substance abuse became the basis for the 2016 film “Being Charlie,” which he co-wrote and his father directed. The semi-autobiographical movie explored the challenges of addiction and the often-ineffective nature of traditional rehabilitation programs.

Rob Reiner built an extraordinary career spanning more than five decades in entertainment. He first gained national attention as an actor in the groundbreaking television series “All in the Family,” where he portrayed Archie Bunker’s liberal son-in-law. The role made him a household name and launched what would become one of Hollywood’s most distinguished directing careers.

As a filmmaker, Reiner directed some of the most beloved movies in American cinema. His credits include the romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally,” the fantasy adventure “The Princess Bride,” and the military courtroom drama “A Few Good Men.” Each film demonstrated his versatility and ability to connect with audiences across different genres.

Beyond his artistic achievements, Rob Reiner was known as a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and a champion of progressive political causes. His outspoken advocacy made him a prominent figure in Democratic Party circles and a frequent voice on social and political issues.

Trump criticized Reiner on social media following news of the director’s death, though the comments drew immediate backlash from Hollywood figures and political observers.

The “Being Charlie” project held particular significance for the Reiner family, representing both a creative collaboration and an attempt to process the pain of Nick’s addiction struggles. The 2016 film explored the challenges of a young man cycling through rehabilitation facilities.

Rob Reiner reflected on the difficulty of revisiting those experiences through filmmaking during interviews promoting the movie. The project required the family to confront painful memories while attempting to create something meaningful from their struggles.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence from the Chadbourne Avenue residence. The search warrant obtained by police represents a critical component of their efforts to reconstruct the events leading to the deaths of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner.

The entertainment industry has reacted with shock and grief to the news. Tributes have poured in from actors, directors, and producers who worked with Reiner throughout his distinguished career.

Michele Singer Reiner, a photographer and later a producer, had been married to Rob Reiner since 1989. She contributed to various projects throughout her career. The couple’s daughter Romy Reiner discovered her parents’ bodies.

The case against Nick Reiner is being presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 for filing consideration.
