Assistant U.S. Attorney Dulce Donovan has requested that a federal judge issue an arrest warrant for a Providence, Rhode Island, man who allegedly violated the conditions of his pretrial release after being charged with threatening President Donald Trump and senior federal officials earlier this year.
Carl D. Montague, 38, faces charges stemming from a social media post in which he allegedly threatened to put “a bullet” in the heads of Trump, Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. Donovan’s motion for an arrest warrant was denied on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, but a bond revocation hearing for Montague has been scheduled for Dec. 9.
According to court documents, Montague was arrested after Trump Media and Technology, the parent organization of Truth Social, alerted the United States Secret Service on June 27, 2025, to a threatening post submitted by a user with the handle @tacoustic. “It’s a shame you won’t get to see the end of your **** term, because I’m gonna make sure I put a bullet rate (sic) between your **** head, you piece of ****, you Pam Bondi. Stephen **** Miller, all you ****, are gonna get a **** bullet to the head every single **** one of you,” the post read, according to an FBI affidavit filed in federal court.
Federal agents traced the IP address to a halfway house on Plainfield Street in Providence. When authorities arrived to apprehend Montague, they found the front office closed and were unable to access the building. Agents returned and located Montague hiding in a bathtub in a second-floor apartment.
According to the FBI affidavit, Montague “began confessing to making threats before agents were able to introduce themselves or explained why they were there.” He told investigators he was smoking marijuana when he posted the threat and claimed he deleted his Truth Social account afterward. Montague said he was upset with current politics and expressed his frustrations through the social media platform.
The affidavit further stated that Montague expressed remorse for his post and claimed he had no intentions of shooting or inflicting violence on any government officials. He told agents he does not own or have access to any weapons.
Following his first court appearance on July 9, 2025, Montague was released with conditions that included GPS monitoring, remaining at the Providence halfway house from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., abstaining from alcohol use, and seeking employment. However, prosecutors had already attempted to have him detained at that time, arguing that he posed a danger to the targets of his threats and the community.
Montague was charged with threats against the president, interstate threats, and threatening to assault, kidnap, or murder a United States official. Reports indicate he was arraigned on Aug. 18, 2025.
In her recent motion, Donovan claimed that since his arraignment, Montague has violated his conditions of pretrial release by consuming alcohol four times. She also stated that it appears he has not abided by the condition requiring him to seek employment.
Most recently, on Nov. 21, 2025, Montague called the location monitoring line after hours and advised he had been drinking and was going to self-report for treatment. During the call, he directed profane language at the United States Probation Office to whom he was speaking, according to the motion.
The situation has grown more complicated as the halfway house has discharged Montague, leaving him with no home address to report to upon his release from treatment. Additionally, the violation report details that Montague does not have his charger for his location monitoring device, meaning that once the battery is depleted, his location will be unknown.
