The Unity Bag, created by luxury designer Alexandra Gucci Zarini—great-granddaughter of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci—was launched on Friday, Dec. 5, with the first lady’s direct involvement in its design. Melania Trump promoted the bag on X Monday, Dec. 8, writing, “Thank you, Alexandra Gucci @guccizarini for creating the beautifully important UNITY handbag. Your support of Fostering the Future is transforming lives—giving foster youth access to college, eventually leading to job security and financial independence.”
The limited-edition handbag features a gold oval plaque and carries what Zarini described as “a quiet message of hope and shared vision” to “come together—in unity for our children—to protect and uplift them toward a brighter future.” Twenty percent of proceeds from the bag’s sales will go toward Fostering the Future, the first lady’s initiative aimed at supporting young people as they age out of the foster care system.
Zarini appeared on Fox and Friends to discuss the collaboration, revealing the extent of the first lady’s involvement. “We worked closely together on it and she was very much involved in the design and the details,” Zarini told the network. “She has amazing style and taste, she’s, yeah, impeccable.”
The designer had met Melania Trump at the White House in November, when president Donald Trump signed the Fostering the Future executive order. Zarini praised the encounter on social media Dec. 4, calling it an “unforgettable moment” and describing the first lady as “elegant, kind, and deeply devoted to the wellbeing of children.”
However, the timing of the luxury bag’s promotion has drawn intense scrutiny. A Politico poll released Thursday found that 46 percent of American adults believe the cost of living is the worst they can ever remember it being. Among those respondents, 37 percent had supported Trump in the 2024 election, highlighting concerns even among the president’s own voter base.

Political divisions have extended even within Trump’s own support base, with prominent MAGA figures disagreeing over various second administration policies.
