U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene disclosed on December 7 that President Donald Trump sent her an “extremely unkind” message after she informed him about death threats directed at her son. This revelation highlights a significant rift between the Georgia congresswoman and the president, whom she once strongly supported.
In an interview with Lesley Stahl on “60 Minutes,” aired on December 7, 2025, Greene shared details about the fallout from Trump calling her “Marjorie Traitor Greene” after she diverged from him on key issues, including the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“After President Trump called me a traitor, I got a pipe bomb threat on my house,” Greene told Stahl. “And then I got several direct death threats on my son.”
According to Greene, the subject line of the death threats against her son mirrored Trump’s phrase: “Marjorie Traitor Greene.” She attributed these threats to the president’s language. Greene reached out to both Trump and Vice President JD Vance about the threats. Vance responded, indicating he would investigate, but Trump’s response was notably different.
When pressed by Stahl about Trump’s message, Greene declined to disclose specifics but indicated that Trump sent a harsh, unsympathetic reply after she shared the threats with him.
Greene also forwarded evidence of the threats to Trump, Vance, and FBI Director Kash Patel. Since 2021, she has reportedly received 773 death threats.
Her “60 Minutes” interview was her first major media appearance since announcing her plan to resign from Congress. During the interview, she criticized her Republican colleagues for privately mocking Trump while publicly supporting him.
“I watched many of my colleagues go from making fun of him, making fun of how he talks, making fun of me constantly for supporting him, to when he won the primary in 2024, they all started, excuse my language, Lesley, kissing his a**, and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time,” Greene said.
Greene suggested her colleagues fear a negative post from Trump on Truth Social if they defy him. She believes her experience serves as a warning for others considering a public break from Trump.
Greene’s disagreement with Trump started over his focus on international issues at the expense of domestic concerns. She criticized him for prioritizing the interests of Israel, Big Pharma, and crypto donors over those of the American people.
Greene also disagreed with Trump over the Epstein files, leading Trump to withdraw his endorsement and criticize her on Truth Social. On December 8, he continued his attacks, stating that Greene is neither America First nor MAGA and criticizing her views.
During the interview, Greene distanced herself from the MAGA label when asked by Stahl. She said she now identifies as America First, explaining MAGA is Trump’s term for his policies. When asked if she is done with MAGA, Greene confirmed she prefers America First.
The congresswoman surprised viewers by apologizing for contributing to toxic politics in Washington, which she described as having the most toxic political culture. When Stahl pointed out Greene’s history of inflammatory rhetoric, Greene accused Stahl of being accusatory.
Greene also criticized Trump’s domestic policy priorities. She argued that an America First president should focus on domestic issues before addressing international matters.
Greene announced her resignation from Congress, citing her unwillingness to endure a primary campaign against Trump. Her announcement followed rising tensions with Trump over policy disagreements on healthcare and foreign policy.
