The Cheshire Coroner’s Court in the United Kingdom heard on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, that a British woman was tragically killed by a gunshot wound to the chest while visiting her father’s home in Texas. The incident transpired following a heated debate about President Trump.
Lucy Harrison, a 23-year-old from Great Sankey in Warrington, was killed on January 10, 2025, at the home of her father, Kris Harrison, located in Prosper, Texas. She was shot with a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun just before she and her boyfriend, Samuel Littler, were scheduled to leave for the airport.
According to the evidence presented at the inquest, a heated argument about President Trump, who was set to be inaugurated for his second term in 10 days, erupted between Harrison and her father on the morning of her demise. The conflict escalated when Lucy, a staunch anti-gun advocate, posed a question to her father about a hypothetical sexual assault scenario.
In response to Lucy’s question, Kris Harrison, who has two other daughters residing with him, stated it wouldn’t upset him much, as per Littler’s testimony. This statement distressed Lucy, causing her to retreat upstairs. However, the family appeared to reconcile and shared a meal before the couple’s impending departure.
Approximately a half-hour before the scheduled airport departure, Kris Harrison led Lucy to his ground-floor bedroom. Littler reported hearing a loud noise about 15 seconds later, followed by Harrison calling out for his wife, Heather.
Littler testified, “I recall rushing into the room and finding Lucy on the floor near the bathroom entrance, with Kris releasing incoherent screams.”
Kris Harrison claimed in a statement presented to the court that he and his daughter had been discussing a news piece about gun violence when he mentioned owning a firearm and proposed showing it to her. He asserted that Lucy accepted the offer, and they proceeded to his room where he kept the weapon secured in a lockbox inside his bedside table.
Having acquired the gun two years prior for perceived family security, Harrison stated, “As I displayed the gun to her, a loud bang ensued. I was startled and bewildered. Lucy immediately collapsed.” In Texas, no permit is mandated for firearms intended for home defense.
Harrison admitted to investigators that he couldn’t remember if his finger was on the trigger when he extracted the gun from its case.
Evidence presented at the inquest indicated that Harrison, a former alcohol rehab attendee, admitted to a brief relapse on the day of his daughter’s death due to emotional distress over her departure.
Security footage captured Harrison buying two 16.9 fl oz boxes of Chardonnay from a 7-Eleven store just before 1 p.m. that day. He drank approximately 16.9 fl oz of white wine over a span of two to three hours. Officer Luciana Escalera, whose testimony was read to the court, noted the smell of alcohol on Harrison’s breath when she arrived at the scene.
At the time of her death, Lucy Harrison had no traces of alcohol or drugs in her system. Five witnesses were present in the house when the police arrived.
Initially, the Prosper Police Department in Texas treated the incident as a case of criminally negligent homicide. However, on June 10, 2025 — exactly five months after the shooting — a grand jury in Collin County decided not to indict Kris Harrison, voting ‘no-bill,’ thereby bringing no criminal charges.
Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, expressed her bafflement and incomprehension at the ruling, stating that it implied no accountability for her daughter’s death.
Through a statement issued by his attorneys, Kris Harrison expressed his sorrow over the incident.
Harrison chose not to appear at the inquest in person. His lawyers unsuccessfully attempted to have senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish recuse herself from the case, alleging that the inquest was conducted more like a criminal investigation than a fact-finding inquiry.
Coates remembered her daughter, a buyer for the fashion brand Boohoo and a Manchester Metropolitan University graduate, as “a real force of life.”
Littler, who met Harrison during their time at Great Sankey High School, said he was “one of the very fortunate ones who met ‘their person’ at a very young age and I will be forever grateful to experience that, even for just one minute.”
The couple purchased their first home together nine months before the trip and celebrated their first Christmas just days before flying to Texas from Heathrow. Lucy sent a message to her mother that she was “packed up” and ready to head to the airport a mere 15 minutes before the fatal shooting.
Lucy’s funeral was held at St Elphin’s Parish Church in Warrington, England on February 24, 2025.
