Fox News cut away from President Donald Trump’s announcement on the night of Feb. 5, 2026, to resume reporting on the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, breaking away from the 79-year-old president’s rollout of TrumpRx.gov, a federal site offering discounted prescription drugs.
The Ingraham Angle briefly broadcast Trump’s remarks at 7:04 p.m., where he appeared with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. The network had been focused on the missing person case involving Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, before momentarily switching to Trump’s pharmaceutical announcement and then swiftly returning to the ongoing investigation.
The TrumpRx.gov site marks Trump’s latest initiative to place his personal branding on government programs. The site provides reduced prescription drug prices and joins a growing lineup of Trump-branded federal projects, such as the Trump Gold Cards for immigrants, Trump-class battleships, and the newly renamed Kennedy Center.
Although Trump promoted the prescription drug announcement as a major event, Fox News’ choice to cut away showed the network’s decision to emphasize the Guthrie disappearance story instead of the administration’s new drug-price initiative. The missing person case has dominated cable news coverage throughout the week.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday night. On Wednesday, Trump contacted Savannah Guthrie to offer federal resources for the search.
Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that investigators suspect foul play after discovering blood evidence at the site. Authorities have not identified any suspects so far.
The Guthrie investigation has drawn extensive media attention, overshadowing even presidential announcements across cable networks.
The launch of the drug-discount website comes as Trump continues his trend of attaching his name to government institutions and programs. In December 2025, the Kennedy Center board voted to rename the venue “The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.” However, Democrats have challenged the move legally, arguing that federal law forbids renaming without Congressional approval. Trump has also created the Trump Gold Card immigration initiative and introduced plans for Trump-class battleships under his “Golden Fleet” program.
Trump insisted that he has always had a positive relationship with Savannah Guthrie despite their sometimes heated on-air interactions. “I always got along very good with Savannah,” he said from the White House.
Fox News’s brief diversion from coverage of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance to air Trump’s remarks lasted only a few minutes before the network returned to updates on the investigation, which is still unfolding in Tucson, with federal assistance available to local authorities if needed.
