Barron Trump, 20, the son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, has become embroiled in controversy after reports revealed his ties to controversial influencer Andrew Tate and personalities in the online “manosphere.”
A New York Times investigation reported that Barron formed a relationship with Andrew Tate beginning in 2024. Tate, a former kickboxer who self-identifies as the “king of toxic masculinity,” is facing serious criminal allegations in several countries. Romanian prosecutors have accused him of rape and human trafficking, and British authorities have filed 21 charges against the brothers, including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking involving multiple women.
The link between Barron and the Tate circle surfaced through Justin Waller, a Louisiana-born influencer who calls himself the “third [Tate] brother.” Waller has publicly talked about his friendship with Barron, saying he visited Mar-a-Lago four or five times and positioned himself as a mentor.
“I had dinner with Barron at Mar-a-Lago. I met Donald that night,” Waller said in the Netflix film “Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere.” That dinner occurred in spring 2024 and was hosted by Barron at the Palm Beach club.
Waller moved from Louisiana to South Florida to further his career and gain proximity to the Trump family. He promotes traditional gender hierarchies and what he calls “one-sided monogamy”—views that align with the broader manosphere emphasis on male dominance.
The relationship goes beyond a casual acquaintance. According to Waller’s statements to The New York Times, he and Barron joined a Zoom call with Andrew Tate while the younger Trump was getting a suit tailored by Waller’s tailor. They discussed the Romanian criminal case against the Tate brothers. Waller said Barron didn’t explicitly offer to assist with their legal issues, though they talked about how the Tates might use their online followings to help Trump’s presidential campaign.
Andrew and Tristan Tate ran a webcam pornography operation for about ten years, boasting about recruiting women to produce sexual content for paying viewers while taking most of the profits. Romanian prosecutors allege the pair trafficked women using the “loverboy method,” pretending affection to manipulate victims. Andrew Tate also faces accusations of rape and sex with a minor. Both brothers deny the allegations.
Investigations into the Tate brothers began in 2022. Romanian courts restricted their travel for years while prosecutors developed the case. In February 2025, however, Romanian authorities unexpectedly lifted the travel ban, allowing the brothers to board a private jet to Florida.
The timing prompted scrutiny. New York Times reporter Megan Twohey reported that Richard Grenell, Trump’s diplomatic envoy, spoke with Romanian officials about the Tates’ case at least twice. Days after the second conversation, Romanian officials directed prosecutors to reach a settlement with the brothers—a move prosecutors opposed. Romania’s then-prime minister reportedly thought the action would placate the Trump administration.
The White House is accused of helping the Tate brothers after the 2024 election. According to ProPublica, Paul Ingrassia—a former lawyer for the Tate brothers who later served as the White House’s DHS liaison—intervened when Customs and Border Protection seized the brothers’ electronic devices upon arrival in Florida. Ingrassia allegedly demanded the return of the devices, saying the instruction came from the White House. His attorney has disputed the claim. The episode led to a Senate inquiry into possible interference with a federal probe.
Andrew Tate has built relationships with several prominent American conservatives, such as Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Donald Trump Jr., who defended the brothers online. Tate has claimed to be “very close to the Trump family.”
Barron is also credited with influencing campaign strategy. Campaign aides have said the teenager encouraged his father’s 2024 campaign to engage with long-form podcasts and online personalities popular with young men—a tactic that became a key part of President Trump’s media approach.
Waller acknowledged the strategic benefit of his ties to the president’s son, telling The New York Times that Barron is “not a bad ally to have—let’s be frank.”
The youngest Trump appeared at Mar-a-Lago on Christmas Day 2025, one of his few public outings since the story emerged. Other manosphere figures have also claimed closeness to the Trump family, including Nicolas Kenn De Balinthazy, known as Sneako online, who attended the president’s inauguration and has made remarks such as that “women should not vote.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly said the Tate brothers were not welcome in his state after their February arrival, and the state attorney general opened a preliminary review. The brothers remain subject to criminal proceedings in Romania and are expected to be extradited to the UK once those matters are resolved.
Barron Trump has not publicly responded to questions about his connections to Waller or the Tate brothers. He has not been accused of any criminal conduct, and no public evidence shows he intervened in the Tates’ legal affairs. The 20-year-old continues to lead a largely private life while attending NYU’s Washington campus, though his links to controversial online figures have attracted public attention.
