Bruce Willis Reaches Age 71 as Ex-Wife Shares New Images

Bruce Willis marked his 71st birthday on Thursday, March 19, 2026, receiving an outpouring of affection from his blended family after ex-wife Demi Moore shared new photos of the retired star with his young granddaughter.

Moore uploaded touching images to Instagram showing Willis cradling his almost three-year-old granddaughter, Louetta, on his knee as she planted a kiss on his cheek. A second shot showed Louetta with her arm draped around her grandfather’s shoulder in a tender embrace.

“All you need is LOVE. Happy birthday, BW! ♥️,” Moore captioned the post, which promptly inspired heartfelt reactions from fans and celebrities alike.

The 63-year-old actress, who earned her first Oscar nod for her part in “The Substance,” also shared the photos in her Instagram Stories, writing “Generational love! Happy birthday, BW!”

Willis stepped away from acting in 2022 after an aphasia diagnosis, and his family later disclosed he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. The “Die Hard” icon retired from his long career once the diagnosis became public.

Moore and Willis wed in 1987 and divorced in 2000, but have stayed close friends. The former couple are parents to three daughters: Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 32. Louetta is Rumer Willis’s daughter with her former partner Derek Richard Thomas, born in April 2023.

Rumer took part in the birthday festivities by sharing a compilation of her father’s memorable film roles across his career. “Happy Birthday Daddio I wanted to think about you today. Dancing around, being your undeniably charming self. I love you so much,” she wrote.

The eldest Willis daughter previously told US Magazine in October 2024 how much her parents’ ongoing friendship means to their family.

Willis married model Emma Heming Willis in 2009; they share two daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. Emma, 47, also paid tribute to her husband with a birthday message that emphasized her advocacy for dementia awareness.

Emma used the milestone to highlight The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund, which she unveiled earlier this month at the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s Hope Rising Benefit in New York City. The fund aims to raise FTD awareness, back research, and offer support to caregivers.

“Today we celebrate Bruce’s birthday. This journey with frontotemporal dementia has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face. It’s what inspired me to create The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund to raise awareness of FTD, support research, and stand beside the caregivers who carry so much every day,” Emma wrote in her Instagram post.

She urged followers to honor Willis by supporting dementia organizations or reaching out to caregivers. “If you’d like to honor Bruce today, please consider supporting the fund or another organization working in this space, or simply checking in on a caregiver — a small act of kindness that can mean so much. 💙,” she added.

Since her husband’s diagnosis, Emma has been an outspoken FTD advocate. She published “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path” in September 2025 and has discussed the challenges of caregiving publicly.

In August 2025, Emma disclosed that she had made the hard choice to move Willis into a second residence where he receives 24-hour care. The decision helped keep their young daughters in a setting better suited to their needs rather than being defined by their father’s medical situation.

Moore spoke about the difficulty of witnessing Willis’s health decline during a podcast interview in September 2025. She highlighted the need to meet him where he is instead of expecting him to be the person he once was, noting moments of “incredible sweetness” and tenderness in their time together.

The birthday tributes highlighted the solidarity of the blended family that has rallied around Willis during his illness. Both Moore and Emma, together with all five of Willis’s daughters, have remained united in supporting the actor through his frontotemporal dementia struggle.

Moore continues to act, with upcoming roles including “I Love Boosters” opposite Keke Palmer, slated for theatrical release on May 22, 2026. She also appears in the Paramount+ series “Landman,” which was renewed for a third season in December 2025.

The birthday observance gave fans a rare snapshot of Willis surrounded by family affection while coping with dementia, and underscored ongoing efforts to raise awareness and assist families on similar paths.
