Legendary Movie Star Dead at 86

Chuck Norris, the legendary martial arts champion and action star who became a cultural icon through his tough-guy roles and internet folklore, has died at age 86 after being rushed to a hospital in Hawaii last week.

The family of the “Walker, Texas Ranger” star confirmed his passing on Friday, March 20, 2026, in an emotional Instagram post, revealing that Norris died Thursday morning surrounded by loved ones following a sudden medical emergency on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

According to reports from TMZ, Norris was said to be doing well, cracking jokes, and in good spirits during a phone call with a friend after his hospitalization on Wednesday.

Just over one week before his death, Norris shared footage of himself sparring with a boxing trainer to celebrate his 86th birthday on March 10. The video showed the action star still fit and active well into his eighties.

He ended the birthday message with a heartfelt thank you to his fans for their support throughout his decades-long career, admitting it “meant more” to him than they would ever know. Remarkably, Norris was training on Kauai the same day he suffered the medical emergency that led to his hospitalization.

Norris launched his career as a professional actor in the late 1960s after establishing himself as a champion martial artist. He became a household name through iconic films including “Silent Rage,” “The Delta Force,” and “Expendables 2.” His most famous role came as the star of “Walker, Texas Ranger,” the long-running television series that cemented his status as an action hero.

While he had slowed his schedule in recent years, Norris remained active in Hollywood. He appears in the upcoming action comedy “Zombie Plane,” set to premiere later this year alongside Vanilla Ice, Ice-T, Cody Simpson, and Sophie Monk. In the film, Norris plays a fictionalized version of himself.

On the set of “Zombie Plane,” Norris was often seen weight-training on the sidelines and encouraging others to work out with him. An insider revealed that Norris was a motivating presence for the entire cast.

“People want to see more of that. They want Chuck to do more movies, and the studios are all for it,” the insider said. “He’s going to continue pushing himself to the max because that’s how he does things.”

The family’s statement praised Norris for the impact he had on millions around the world.

“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved,” they wrote. “Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”

The family acknowledged the outpouring of support following news of his hospitalization, thanking fans for their prayers during his final days.

The family asked for privacy as they grieve their loss, ending their message with a simple but heartfelt note: “Thank you for loving him with us.”

Beyond his film and television work, Norris became an unlikely internet sensation in the 2000s when “Chuck Norris facts” — humorous statements about his supposed superhuman abilities — became a viral phenomenon. The memes only added to his legendary status and introduced him to new generations of fans.

Norris is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, and five children: Mike, 63, Dina, 61, Eric, 60, and twins Danilee and Dakota, 24. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
