The 67-year-old pop icon was spotted filming scenes in Venice, Italy, alongside series creator and star Seth Rogen, as well as cast members Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Kathryn Hahn, Bryan Cranston, Julia Garner, and Michael Keaton. The Venice shoot marks Madonna’s first live-action acting role since her appearance in the 2002 romantic comedy “Swept Away,” where she starred opposite Adriano Giannini.
Madonna teased her involvement on Instagram, posting a photo of herself reading a script while seated in a gondola on Venice’ famous canals. Wearing a wide-rimmed Louis Vuitton hat, she captioned the image simply: “The Italian job.” Venice holds special significance for the singer—it’s where she filmed her iconic 1984 “Like a Virgin” music video and her final film appearance in “Swept Away.”
While details about Madonna’s role remain under wraps, Entertainment Weekly confirmed her appearance in the series. “The Studio,” which swept the 2025 Emmy Awards with 13 wins—breaking the record for most wins by a comedy series in a single season—follows Matt Remick (Rogen), a newly appointed head of Continental Studios who struggles to balance corporate demands with his creative vision. The show also won Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy at the 2026 Golden Globes, along with Best Actor for Rogen.
Production on the second season began in January 2026 following the Golden Globes ceremony and is expected to wrap by late March. At the 2026 Golden Globes, Rogen hinted at the new season’s direction: “We’ve literally written some things that happened leading up to this award show into episodes.”
Madonna’s return to acting comes amid developments on her long-gestating biopic project.
