Melania Trump Brutally Mocked Over Comments

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel delivered a scathing response to First Lady Melania Trump’s recent White House statement about Jeffrey Epstein, with the comedian questioning both why she felt compelled to address the topic and whether her remarks actually helped or hurt her cause.

The first lady used the White House Grand Foyer on Thursday, April 9, 2026, to categorically deny involvement with or knowledge of crimes committed by the convicted sex offender. She stated she had never flown on Epstein’s plane, never set foot on his private island, and was never his friend—though she admitted they crossed paths “from time to time” in New York City and Palm Beach, Florida social circles.

What made the statement particularly unusual was that no fresh allegations had surfaced against her. President Trump himself told reporters he hadn’t been informed of his wife’s planned remarks before she delivered them.

On his show, Kimmel zeroed in on a photograph of Melania and President Trump standing with Epstein and alleged accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell at Mar-a-Lago. “By the way, while you’re explaining how much you didn’t know Epstein, any particular reason you can think of that he had a picture of you guys on display at his house?” Kimmel said. “Maybe this is the photo that came with the frame.”

The timing drew even sharper criticism from the late-night host. Melania’s statement came just one day after Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, effectively redirecting public attention back to Epstein-related controversies her husband has repeatedly insisted Americans should move past. Kimmel suggested she had sabotaged her husband’s messaging, quipping that “she must really hate him.”

The first lady also called for Congressional hearings where Epstein survivors could testify under oath—a position that directly contradicts Trump’s efforts to put the matter behind him.

Documentation previously released by the Justice Department revealed that Melania emailed Maxwell in October 2002, more than two years before her marriage to Donald Trump. The email referenced a New York magazine story about Epstein, complimented Maxwell’s appearance in an accompanying photo, and was signed “Love, Melania.” Maxwell responded by addressing her as “sweet pea.” The first lady characterized the exchange as “casual correspondence” that “doesn’t amount to anything more than a trivial note.”

That same New York magazine article contained Trump’s now-infamous quote calling Epstein a “terrific guy” who “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

The mockery extended beyond Kimmel’s monologue. Saturday Night Live featured the first lady in its April 11 cold open, with Chloe Fineman portraying Melania calling her husband to propose “a big, random speech, completely out of nowhere” denying Epstein ties. James Austin Johnson’s Trump replied, “Darling, I gotta admit, this sounds a little insane.”

The controversy compounds what polling data reveals as a disastrous stretch for Melania’s public standing. Recent surveys show her net favorability rating has plummeted to negative 12 points—a sharp decline from the positive 3-point rating she held in January 2025 and the positive 30-point rating from May 2018 during Trump’s first term. CNN’s Harry Enten called the numbers “historically awful,” noting she now holds the worst favorability rating of any modern first lady at this point in a presidency. Michelle Obama maintained a positive 42-point rating at the same stage, while Hillary Clinton—previously the lowest-rated second-term first lady—stood at positive 25 points during the height of Bill Clinton’s scandal.

Her self-titled documentary also performed poorly with critics and audiences. Amazon paid $40 million for the rights and reportedly spent another $35 million on marketing, but “Melania” earned just $16.7 million at the box office—falling far short of recouping costs.

Despite the resurfaced connections, no substantial new allegations linking Melania to Epstein’s crimes have emerged, making her decision to address the matter publicly all the more puzzling. The episode adds another layer of turbulence to an administration already facing scrutiny on multiple fronts. The first lady’s attempt to clear her name appears to have achieved the opposite effect—keeping the Epstein controversy firmly in the headlines and providing comedians with fresh ammunition.
