Reality TV Star is Gone at 67

Darrell Sheets, whose aggressive bidding tactics and outsized personality made him a household name on A&E’s “Storage Wars,” was found dead at his Arizona residence early Tuesday morning, April 22, 2026. The reality star, who spent more than a decade hunting for treasure in abandoned storage lockers, was 67.

Officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department arrived at a home in the 1500 block of Chandler Drive around 2 a.m., after receiving a report of a deceased individual.

“On April 22, 2026, at approximately 0200 hours, officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Chandler Drive in reference to a reported deceased individual. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject who suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” the department said.

The reality television personality was declared dead at the scene. The Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office received Sheets’ body for further examination, which will determine the official cause of death. The department’s Criminal Investigations Unit has taken over the probe, which remains active. Sheets’ family has been notified. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Lake Havasu City Police Department at (928) 855-1171.

Allegations of Harassment Under Investigation

Law enforcement officials are examining claims that Sheets faced persistent online harassment before his death. Sgt. Kyle Ridgway, public information officer for the Lake Havasu City Police Department, confirmed investigators are looking into these allegations as part of their broader inquiry. Co-star Rene Nezhoda raised the cyberbullying accusations in an Instagram video posted after Sheets’ death was announced.

The reality star himself had publicly addressed the alleged harassment in the weeks before he died. On March 9, 2026, Sheets posted on Facebook: “I have been hacked by a very evil person. I’m not gay, I have made no post about any children’s arcade owners, etc. I’m extremely sorry and sick over this. These people have ruined me, and he said he would. Please understand it is not me.” He also claimed the harassment had moved beyond the internet, writing, “People are showing up to my work and wanting to harm me.”

Laura Dotson, who worked as an auctioneer on “Storage Wars” with her husband Dan Dotson, told Us Weekly the cyberbullying had persisted for three years. “He was terrified for his life [and] for the people around him. He didn’t know why he was being targeted,” Dotson said. She described Sheets as someone who “truly, truly was a wonderful, loving person who believed in God.”

Whether Sheets was dealing with other health issues at the time of his death remains unclear. He had suffered congestive heart failure and endured back-to-back heart attacks in 2019.

From California Auctions to Reality Stardom

Sheets was born in California in 1958 and became a reality television fixture when “Storage Wars” debuted on A&E on December 1, 2010. The show followed competitive buyers across Southern California who bid on abandoned storage units, hoping to find valuable items they could resell for a profit. His readiness to wager large sums on lockers with uncertain contents earned him the nickname “The Gambler.”

Across 163 episodes spanning 15 seasons, Sheets emerged as one of the program’s most prominent personalities, celebrated for both his bold bidding approach and his colorful demeanor. He remained with the series for 13 years before his departure in the summer of 2023. Following his 2019 heart attacks, his appearances became less frequent in the show’s later seasons.

A&E released a statement honoring Sheets as the network continues to air season 17 of “Storage Wars.”

“We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell ‘The Gambler’ Sheets. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the network said.

New Chapter in Lake Havasu City

Following his exit from “Storage Wars,” Sheets relocated from Southern California to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. There, he continued pursuing his passion for discovering valuable finds by opening an antique shop named Havasu Show Me Your Junk, drawing on more than three decades of experience in the auction world. His bio on the “Storage Wars” website noted he had been “addicted to the ‘high’ of storage auctions for 32 years.”

In his official bio, Sheets displayed his trademark humor, stating, “The only thing I collect these days is dead presidents.”

His survivors include his partner Patty Rich, ex-wife Kimber Wuerfel, daughter Tiffany Shane Sheets, son Brandon Sheets, and granddaughter Zoie. Brandon joined his father on the A&E series, continuing the family tradition. Sheets’ bio indicated he wanted to share the “adventure and education” of storage buying with his son.

Remembering a Reality TV Icon

Former colleagues and admirers flooded social media with remembrances after word of Sheets’ death spread. Co-star Mary Padian posted a photograph of the two together with a touching message.

“Some people become part of a chapter of your life that you never forget. You will be missed, Darrell,” Padian wrote.

Brandi Passante, another co-star, offered her condolences while revealing her own family tragedies. “I’m at a loss for words. I’ve known Darrell Sheets for many years. I’m just so very sorry to hear the circumstances of his passing. My heart hurts for Brandon, Zoe, and Kimber. I unfortunately lost a parent and a brother to similar situations,” Passante wrote. She encouraged those in crisis to reach out for help, cautioning, “You are not taking your pain away; you are transferring it to someone else. The grief from suicide is endless.”

For more than a decade, Sheets’ theatrical auction-floor antics, his love of the chase, and his unfiltered personality made him a fixture in a genre defined by larger-than-life characters.
