Popular Musician Dies in Car Crash at 28

Erick Del Campo, a well-known DJ who performed as DJ Avenger, was killed in a car crash on Saturday, June 7, 2026, just hours after fulfilling what his family described as a lifelong dream. He was 44.

Del Campo died from injuries sustained when his vehicle collided with another car on U.S. Highway 80 in Mesquite, Texas, in the early morning hours. Mesquite Police were notified of the crash at 2:29 a.m., and both drivers were transported to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. The other driver’s condition has not been disclosed, and the Mesquite Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

The tragedy occurred roughly four hours after Del Campo completed his first Major League Baseball performance, spinning at Globe Life Field in Arlington during a Texas Rangers and Cleveland Guardians game on Friday night, June 6.

A Lifelong Goal Realized

According to his loved ones, performing for his home team was something Del Campo had been chasing his entire adult life. He had already established himself across North Texas, working regularly at Texas Live! in Arlington and performing at events held at the American Airlines Center. But the performance at Globe Life Field represented the milestone he had worked toward for years.

Mike Del Campo, his younger brother, said music had always been central to Erick’s identity, even during childhood.

“I would be asleep, getting ready for school the next day, and he’d be up having his headphones on and I’d hear the music,” Mike recalled.

That dedication carried him from late-night practice sessions to some of the biggest stages in the region — and finally, to a Major League ballpark.

Shock and Grief After the Crash

For Del Campo’s family, the timing of the crash has made the loss particularly painful. The collision happened just hours after one of the proudest moments of his career, a contrast his brother is still processing.

“I’m like in shock just like everybody else,” Mike said, according to reports. “Erick, just know I love you, man.”

Del Campo, a resident of Mesquite, is survived by his wife, his daughter, and his younger brother.

More Than a DJ

Friends and colleagues across the North Texas entertainment scene described Del Campo as someone whose impact extended far beyond his performances. They remembered him as a husband, father, brother, and friend who consistently put others first.

“He was the epitome of that guy that would give you the shirt off his back,” one friend said. Others highlighted his faith and family-first mentality, qualities they say shaped both his personal life and his career.

His brother described him as a God-fearing man who brought that same conviction to everything he did, which helped him connect deeply with both audiences and venue staff. Friends say he was electric on stage and funny off it, the kind of presence that made a room feel warmer the moment he entered.

A Difficult Weekend for Texas Baseball

Del Campo’s death marked the beginning of a painful weekend for the Texas baseball community. One day later, on Sunday, June 8, a private jet crashed in the Dominican Republic. The aircraft had been flying to Austin, Texas, to pick up former MLB star Yadier Molina and his family. Molina and his family were safely waiting in Texas at the time, but the crash added another layer of sorrow to an already difficult stretch of days.

Friends have launched a GoFundMe to support Del Campo’s wife and daughter as they navigate the road ahead. Those closest to him said the fundraiser is about more than finances — it’s about ensuring the family he adored receives the same kind of care he showed others throughout his life.

For many in the music community, DJ Avenger’s legacy won’t be measured by the venues he played or the crowds he entertained. It will be measured in how he treated people — the warmth he brought to every booking, the loyalty he showed his friends, and the love he poured into his family. He achieved his biggest career goal on a Friday night in Arlington, and he’ll be remembered for both the music and the kindness that came with it.
