Doctor Said Trump Suffered Serious Medical Issue

New questions about President Donald Trump’s health surfaced during his swing through California and Nevada on Aug. 4, 2026, when a Democratic governor labeled the visit low-energy, reviving a Washington State University physician’s January claim that Trump likely experienced a stroke sometime in 2025.

Dr. Bruce Davidson, who holds board certification in internal medicine and pulmonary care and teaches at Washington State University’s Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, laid out his stroke hypothesis in January through podcast appearances on “The Court of History” and “The Daily Beast Podcast,” along with a written opinion. Davidson, who has never examined Trump in person, contended that video evidence suggests a cerebrovascular event affecting the left side of the brain, probably occurring in 2025.

His analysis rested entirely on publicly accessible footage and medical disclosures. Davidson cited garbled speech that subsequently improved, a shuffling walk, weakness on the right side, and recurring daytime drowsiness. He also noted Trump’s daily regimen of 325 mg aspirin, a dosage more commonly prescribed to ward off a second stroke than as initial prevention.

Trump’s White House has categorically denied the stroke allegation, and no physician with direct access to the president has corroborated Davidson’s remote diagnosis.

California Governor Mocks Tarmac Appearance

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a longtime Democratic rival, seized on the West Coast trip to mock the 80-year-old president’s performance. On the morning of Wednesday, August 5, Newsom’s press office posted a 14-second video to X showing Trump answering reporters’ questions on the tarmac. Newsom’s office said the visit was “a total snoozer,” adding that Trump displayed “Very low energy. No speech. He could barely take a question on the tarmac.”

The footage captured Trump walking cautiously away from journalists when one mentioned Max Miller, the embattled MAGA representative from Ohio facing pressure to drop out over allegations made by his ex-wife of spousal and child abuse. Upon hearing Miller’s name, Trump turned briefly, shrugged, expressed hope that Miller would stay and work it out, then departed.

The August 4 itinerary brought Trump to Rancho Palos Verdes for a Republican National Committee fundraiser at his golf club, followed by a Nevada stop where he promoted the administration’s tax reduction policies at an event held at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa.

Armed Intruder and Aviation Protocol Breach

Security incidents overshadowed the visit. Days ahead of Trump’s arrival at the Southern California golf course, police detained an armed individual who had been spotted on foot at the Rancho Palos Verdes location with a magazine containing 16 rounds plus extra ammunition, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

White House Fires Back at Critics

Scrutiny of Trump’s fitness is nothing new. The president has repeatedly drawn attention over chronically bruised hands, swollen ankles, public episodes of drowsiness, and occasional mental lapses. His administration has consistently maintained he is healthy, and White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded to Newsom’s taunt with a blistering rebuttal.

Ingle described the governor as the nation’s most incompetent and least intelligent state leader, contrasting Trump’s sharpness, energy, and accessibility with the previous administration. He charged that Democrats concealed former President Joe Biden’s mental and physical decline while now attacking Trump.

No one with direct access to the president has verified Davidson’s stroke theory. Based exclusively on video clips and publicly disclosed medication, his remote assessment carries inherent limitations, and Trump’s medical team has not supported it. Yet the convergence of a physician’s unconfirmed hypothesis and a governor’s viral attack has thrust the president’s fitness back into the political spotlight.

Two contrasting narratives now compete. One depicts a president diminished by age and potential medical crisis; the other presents a vigorous leader whose opponents, the administration claims, are deploying tactics they once used to protect a Democratic incumbent. What remains undeniable is that concerns about the physical condition of the country’s oldest commander-in-chief have emerged as an unavoidable subplot of his second term, magnified by a brief tarmac encounter and a doctor’s distant diagnosis.
