A crash at a small-town Ohio dragstrip has killed a popular reality television personality and drag racer. Chris “Block” Gordon, a veteran racer from South Carolina who captained his home-state team to victory on Discovery’s “Street Outlaws: Fastest in America,” was killed on August 22, 2026, when a race went wrong at KD Motorsports Park, a track in South Webster, Ohio. Gordon was 55 years old.

Word of his death came from the track itself, in a Facebook statement published the following day, August 23. “We had a devastating accident last night at the track involving our great friend and fellow racer, Chris ‘Block’ Gordon,” KD Motorsports Park wrote, saying the wreck had cost him his life.

What Happened at the Ohio Track

The venue said its own crew got to Gordon without delay and was joined by trained medical staff, firefighters and EMTs who had equipment on site, as well as spectators with medical training. According to the statement, no one there left anything untried.

Help was summoned at roughly 8 p.m. Saturday, August 22. An ambulance carried Gordon to a hospital nearby, where physicians declared him dead. Beyond that, the track offered nothing further about how the wreck unfolded, and it asked racing fans to set aside guesswork and uninformed opinions while the family mourns.

The South Carolina Street King

To viewers, Gordon was a fixture of a franchise built on outsized personalities and no-prep asphalt. He appeared on “Street Outlaws: Fastest in America,” a Discovery spinoff of the network’s flagship “Street Outlaws” that debuted in 2020 and matches eight regional squads against each other in a competition the network promotes as the country’s biggest street race, with $100,000 going to the winning team.

Leading Team South Carolina, Gordon was the man the program dubbed the “South Carolina Street King.” Away from the cameras, he had earned respect on his home state’s racing scene and was well known at tracks far outside it.

Gordon wasn’t a spectator at KD Motorsports Park that night; he was there in a working role. Tributes and a Push to Bring Him Home

The hardest tribute to read came from Amanda Laport Grasty, Gordon’s fiancée, who posted on her own Facebook page that she was shattered. “I lost my best friend and I don’t know how to navigate life without him in it,” she wrote.

Grasty said she had tried repeatedly to put something into words and could not, describing herself as unsure of what to say, think, feel or do. She asked friends for patience if she did not respond to messages, explaining that she was still trying to process the loss. She wrote that she had made it back home from Ohio and now had to concentrate on bringing Gordon home, and she asked for prayers that she could make good decisions in the days ahead.

The two did everything together, she wrote, from the moment they woke up until he kissed her forehead good night. They were a team, she said, and she had lost her most valuable player.

Gordon’s friends and family have since launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the cost of returning his body to South Carolina and laying him to rest. The fundraiser reflects a practical reality of grassroots motorsports, where drivers often travel hundreds of miles across state lines to race for modest purses in front of hometown crowds, and where the community closes ranks when one of its own does not make it back.

The circumstances of the crash remain undisclosed. What his fellow racers have offered instead is the only thing available to them: the checkered flag, lowered.
