#1: Several Gored by Bulls in Spain:
The annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain’s San Fermin Festival had its sixth running on Tuesday. One person was gored and several other people had very close calls. Eight people were treated for their injuries.
In the Tuesday run, which lasted about two minutes, a woman was knocked to the ground by a bull, who then tossed another runner into the air.
Another runner was dragged along the ground by a bull’s horn.
The festival has featured six runs so far. Four people have already been gored (three during Monday’s run).
The traditional Running of the Bulls occurs in the early morning, where hundreds of primarily male runners jump in front of six bulls charging through the cobblestone streets of Pamplona. After the run, the bulls are killed by professional bullfighters.
#2: Images From Space:
NASA released four high-resolution color images taken by the James Webb Space Telescope. The photo that was released on Monday, shows “the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date,” NASA said.
The Webb telescope started taking images a few weeks ago. It has the technology to produce spectacular images, never seen before, of galaxy collisions and the formation of stars.
#3: January 6 Hearings:
The January 6 hearings on July 12 will focus on evidence gathered about far-right extremist groups and their potential ties to former president Donald Trump and his administration, and the final days of his plan to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
The Committee is investigating the Trump administration’s ties between groups such as the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers. Many of the members of these groups have been charged with seditious conspiracy in the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.
According to the members of the committee, Trump’s December 19 tweet, in which he called out to protesters to “be there, be wild” and a meeting in the White House on December 18, are essential details in the conspiracy.
The hearing is being broadcast live, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
#4: Biden Meeting Mexican President:
On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden is meeting with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the White House. They hope to strengthen their relationship in spite of disagreements on several issues, including the war in Ukraine and immigration.
Administration officials say the two countries plan to announce a joint venture to modernize and improve infrastructure along parts of the 2,000-mile border, improve law enforcement cooperation against fentanyl smugglers, and promote clean energy.
#5: Monkeypox Spread:
The UK has confirmed over 1,700 cases of monkeypox, and 75% of the cases are in London.
The Health Security Agency said the monkeypox epidemic is growing and “continues to be transmitted primarily in interconnected sexual networks of gay, bisexual, or men who have sex with men.” The agency said 97% of cases are found in those populations.
Scientists continue to warn the public that anyone in close physical contact with a victim of monkeypox or their clothing or bedding could be at risk of infection, regardless of their sexual orientation.
The outbreak is estimated to be doubling in size every two weeks.
Although the number of cases in the US is low, The World Health Organization confirmed approximately 6,000 cases in the world, with 80% in Europe. A large percentage of the European cases are in the UK.
