The office of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia has been investigating if former President Donald Trump and/or associates broke state laws when he sought to overturn Biden’s win, including laws around election fraud and forgery statues.

Sixteen Republicans who signed on as fake electors may be subject to criminal charges.

The 16 Republicans consist of several high-ranking officials in Georgia, including State Senator Burt Jones, who is running for lieutenant governor, and David Shafer, a Trump ally who chairs the Georgia Republican Party. They had gathered at the Georgia Capitol on Dec. 14, 2020, to sign an unofficial election certificate, falsely declaring Trump the winner of the state’s presidential vote.
