Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are in the spotlight again, or in the spotlight as usual, as they mourn with the royal family after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
On Monday, the 37-year-old son of now King Charles III, and Princess Diana, had an “olive branch” moment with his estranged father, when he spoke emotional words in a tribute to his grandmother.
Harry promised to “honor” his father in his new life as King.
In the past, Prince Harry had attacked his father and blamed him for the turmoil that caused him and his wife, Meghan, to move to California and step down from their duties as part of the royal family.
His statement, three days after the Queen’s death, was a sign of reconciliation as the family was reunited under sad circumstances.
Harry had arrived at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland too late, and joined his close family after the Queen had already passed away. His wife, whom he was traveling with and was in Windsor at the time of the Queen’s passing, did not join Harry at the Castle. Allegedly, Charles, the former Prince of Wales, told Prince Harry that it would not be appropriate to have Meghan attend the Queen’s bedside vigil.
Although some bad feelings are said to have been exchanged between Harry and his brother Prince William, Harry and Meghan were invited by William and his wife, Kate, to see the tributes left at Windsor Castle, where the Queen will be buried next week.
To his “granny,” Prince Harry said that he was grateful for his childhood memories. “I cherish these times shared with you, and the many other special moments in between. You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over,” he wrote.
“Thank you for your commitment to service. Thank you for your sound advice. Thank you for your infectious smile.”
Harry and Meghan’s daughter is named after Queen Elizabeth II. The child’s name is Lilibet.
The greatest tribute to “granny” is her namesake.
