Shaquil Barrett, the linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is grieving the devastating loss of his two-year-old daughter, Arrayah, who drowned in their family swimming pool on Sunday morning.

Officers from the Tampa Police Department responded to Barrett’s home in Tampa’s Beach Park area shortly before 9:30 am on Sunday, April 30, following reports of a toddler who had fallen into a pool. After immediate efforts to revive her, first responders rushed Arrayah to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead a short time later.

The police department released a statement on Sunday saying that an investigation into the child’s death is ongoing, but investigators do not suspect foul play. They believe the incident to be accidental and tragic.

The Bucs organization expressed their heartfelt condolences in a statement, acknowledging the profound sorrow and extending their thoughts, prayers, and support to Shaquil (Shaq), his wife Jordanna, and their entire family during this unimaginably difficult time.

Shaquil Barrett and Jordanna, who have been together since high school, have three other children: Shaquil Jr., Braylon, and Aaliyah. Jordanna gave birth to Arrayah two months after Barrett and the Bucs achieved victory in Super Bowl 55 against the Kansas City Chiefs. At the time, Barrett had just signed a lucrative four-year, $72 million contract, with $34 million guaranteed.

Unfortunately, Barrett’s 2022 season was cut short due to a torn Achilles suffered in a Week 8 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Nonetheless, he displayed an impressive performance with 31 tackles and three sacks in eight games.

Barrett joined the Bucs as a free agent in 2019 and made an immediate impact, leading the NFL with 19.5 sacks and earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

Arrayah turned two on April 19, and her father shared a touching birthday tribute on Instagram.
