Law enforcement authorities uncovered the dismembered remains of at least 13 individuals on August 14 in two houses.
The frozen body parts were found in bags in ice chests and freezers in Poza Rica in the State of Veracruz, Mexico. The houses are believed to be linked to kidnapping operations.
Lead prosecutor Veronica Hernandez stated that the tally of remains could potentially increase as identification processes progress. Although six individuals have been arrested regarding this incident, the exact motive remains to be ascertained.
Reports from local media claim that abducted victims were rescued from one of these locations. The gravity of the situation was further emphasized by Veracruz Governor Cuitlahuac Garcia, who related the events to ongoing conflicts between criminal factions. He alluded to the potential involvement of gang members’ children but did not confirm its relation to the current findings.
Statistics from Mexico indicate a grim scenario with over 110,000 people documented as missing.
