In Durham, North Carolina a 41-year-old father was taken into custody for allegedly causing the death of a 39-year-old state corrections worker.
The situation began to unfold around 6:30 am on Monday, August 14. While driving, Jeffrey McKay unintentionally struck and killed Chad Woods Jr., 17, who was walking on the road with his father, Chad Woods, Sr., after their car ran out of fuel. McKay, employed as an electrical supervisor at the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, promptly contacted 911 regarding the incident.
However, in the aftermath of the collision, McKay was purportedly shot by the grieving father at the location. It is reported that Woods discarded the firearm in a neighboring pond, took possession of McKay’s vehicle, and left the scene, abandoning both bodies.
Local authorities apprehended Woods in the vicinity of his residence, less than a mile away.
Eyewitness accounts depict a scene of disorder. Lawrence Claiborne, Woods’ father, spoke of his son’s evident anguish, recounting him saying, “He just killed my son.” Melody Moore, a local resident, recalled the startling sounds of the confrontation and the subsequent gunshots.
Chad Woods, Sr. is scheduled to attend a court hearing on August 21.
