On the night of Saturday, August 5, a vehicular incident resulted in two fatalities in Atmore, Alabama.
Kenneth E. Harrison, 45, was involved in a collision with Hannah Martin while she was crossing Highway 31, heading towards The Tavern. The impact of the collision caused Martin to land in the bar’s parking area, with Harrison’s car halting not far from her.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that a few patrons from The Tavern confronted and assaulted Harrison. The aftermath of the brutal assault led to Harrison’s transportation to a trauma center, where, unfortunately, with multiple injuries and internal bleeding, he passed away after four days.
Kati Riley, Harrison’s partner, conveyed that Harrison’s intention had been to assist the injured Martin, 24, when he was attacked. Riley said that the collision was unintentional.
Officials from the local law enforcement are reviewing evidence from the assault. The responsibility of deciding on charges against the attackers lies with the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office. Currently, the identities of those involved in the assault are withheld.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is examining the crash details, including the possibility of alcohol involvement from either party.
Harrison had a manslaughter conviction in 2011, leading to a 15-year prison term, and he was released in 2016 after spending a minimum of five years behind bars.
