A school bus accident in German Township, Ohio resulted in one student’s death and over 25 other injuries.

The incident took place at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, August 22, on State Route 41 near Lawrenceville Road. A Northwestern Local School District bus headed west was hit by a 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan coming from the opposite direction. The collision forced the bus off the road, overturning it and leading to the fatality of one student.

The 68-year-old bus driver, Alfred E. Collier, suffered minor wounds and was the only person on the bus with access to a seatbelt. Of the 53 passengers, 22 were rushed to nearby hospitals with non-critical injuries, while another person was taken to Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. The Honda’s occupants, aged 35 and 37, are recovering from non-severe injuries at Springfield Regional Medical Center.

An official investigation is ongoing.
