Tragic Car Plunge Results in Five Teen Deaths

In Gwinnett County, Georgia five teenagers lost their lives when a car went over a wall and landed on the interstate.

The accident site was located near the intersection of Interstate 85 and Georgia Route 316, adjacent to the Pleasant Hill Road vicinity.

Following the incident, Gwinnett Police released the names of the deceased on September 4. The victims are Katy Gaitan, 17, Ashley Gaitan, 16, Coral Lorenzo, 17, from Atlanta; Hung Nguyen, 18, from Lawrenceville, and Abner Santana, 19, from Suwanee.

Among the five, three were part of the student community at Lakeside High School in DeKalb County.

In addition to the fatalities, three other individuals suffered injuries in the three-vehicle collision. They are currently in a stable health condition in a local medical facility.

Reports from the accident site note that at around 3:45 am, a vehicle descended nearly 50 feet from the overpass of Georgia Route 316 onto I-85 South, subsequently colliding with another car. Several passengers were ejected due to the impact. The five fatalities were occupants of this descending vehicle. 

Gwinnett County Police’s Corporal Christian D’Allaird stated that the cause behind the vehicle’s plunge is still under examination.
