On Sunday, October 15, at a house on Edmore Street in Detroit, Michigan’s east side, a baby shower turned deadly when an argument between two women escalated into a fatal shooting.
Phebe Williams, 53, was attending her niece’s baby shower when she was shot by another woman. The confrontation stemmed from allegations the suspect made against one of Williams’ sons.
This disagreement between Williams and her longtime friend, the suspect, was not a sudden occurrence. Just days before the baby shower, the same woman had approached a local police station, accusing Williams’ son of a crime.
Tensions peaked at the baby shower when the suspect, uninvited, made her appearance and confronted Williams. During the altercation, it is reported that Williams hit the suspect. In retaliation, in front of all the attendees, the suspect produced a firearm and fatally shot Williams.
Following the shooting, the suspect proceeded to Detroit police 9th Precinct, apparently with the intention of surrendering. However, on her way there, she was struck by a vehicle driven by Williams’ son, who had sought to confront her. Both individuals were detained by the police, and the woman shooter was also rushed to a hospital for her injuries.
The tragic event left the attendees and family members in disbelief. To aid with the unexpected funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page was set up in Williams’ memory. The page pays tribute to her, portraying her as a caring person who radiated positivity to those around her. Phebe Williams leaves behind two sons and three grandchildren.
