A devastating incident occurred on Saturday, November 25, 2023, when Chaturong Suksuk, a 29-year-old decorated athlete and former Thai soldier, initiated a fatal shooting at his wedding in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand, resulting in the death of his newlywed wife, her family members, and a guest.
Suksuk and Kanchana Pachunthuek, 44, had celebrated their wedding earlier that day, following three years of living together. Pachunthuek was a mother of two from a previous relationship.
The event took a tragic turn as Suksuk, who seemed unusually solemn, consumed excessive alcohol and engaged in an argument with Pachunthuek. After a heated discussion, he left the venue, only to return with a 9mm handgun. His subsequent shooting spree claimed the lives of his bride, her 62-year-old mother, and her 38-year-old sister. Two guests, ages 50 and 28, were also shot; the older victim later succumbed to his injuries.
After the shooting, Suksuk ended his life. Eleven 9mm cartridges were recovered by the police from the scene.
Suksuk, known for his sports achievements, including a silver medal in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, had a history as a Thai paramilitary ranger and lost a leg in a train accident.
Police are investigating the incident and looking to learn the motive for Suksuk’s actions.
