A Boston, Massachusetts woman of 73 years died on Monday, November 18, after her pet pit bull initiated a violent attack against her outside her Roxbury residence, also leading to injuries for her husband and two police officers.
The victim, Jeriline Brady-McGinnis, passed away during surgery following the assault that took place around 4:30 p.m. on Dennison Street. Her pet, a pit bull mix named Deuce, also attacked Brady-McGinnis’s husband when he attempted to stop the dog, and later injured two Boston Police officers who responded to the incident.
The police were compelled to discharge three rounds at the dog during the incident. The wounded animal was later put down due to its deteriorating condition and bleak prognosis, according to animal control officials.
Brady-McGinnis’s sons, Chris, Ronald, and Donald, remembered their mother as a doting and nurturing individual who always put her children first. “She was the heart and soul of our family,” they mentioned in a statement.
A neighbor revealed that Brady-McGinnis regularly prepared dinner for her pets and provided them with exceptional care.
The incident sparked fears among neighbors, who expressed apprehensions about the four dogs housed at the residence. The dogs were usually kept in cages and were known for their frequent, loud barking.
After the attack, Boston Animal Control seized three more pit bull mix dogs from the property. These dogs are currently under the watchful eye of the city’s veterinary medical director.
The Boston Police homicide unit is conducting an investigation into the incident due to the grave nature of the injuries. Brady-McGinnis’s husband and the two responding officers suffered non-fatal injuries.
