Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson, whose performances have earned him three Academy Awards and 12 nominations over a career spanning more than 60 years, appeared in a rare family photo shared during the 2024 holiday season, offering an intimate glimpse into the 87-year-old actor’s private life.
Nicholson’s daughter Lorraine, 34, posted the image on Instagram Thursday, January 2, 2025, showing father and daughter embracing in their book-lined study, surrounded by the actor’s collection of awards. “The giving season 🎁,” she captioned the moment. The photograph marks one of the few times the legendary actor has been seen since his last public appearance at a Los Angeles Lakers game in May 2023.
Nicholson’s illustrious career has produced some of cinema’s most memorable performances, earning him Academy Awards for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975), “Terms of Endearment” (1983), and “As Good as It Gets” (1997). His iconic roles in “The Shining” (1980), “Batman” (1989), and “A Few Good Men” (1992) have become part of Hollywood folklore. His last screen appearance was in James L. Brooks’ romantic comedy “How Do You Know” (2010), starring alongside Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson.
The holiday gathering also featured Lorraine’s brother Raymond, 32, along with Nicholson’s grandson Duke Nicholson, and Duke’s girlfriend, influencer Devon Lee Carlson, highlighting three generations of the Nicholson family. Each of the actor’s children present has carved their path in the entertainment industry, following their father’s legendary footsteps.
Lorraine, who gained recognition for her portrayal of Alana Blanchard in the 2011 biographical film “Soul Surfer,” has recently transitioned into directing and writing short films. Raymond has established himself with roles in significant productions, including the upcoming “Smile 2” (2024), Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza” (2021), and the comedy “The Benchwarmers” (2006). Duke has also entered the family business, launching his successful career in the film industry.
In a February 2024 interview, Lorraine offered rare insights into her unconventional upbringing as the daughter of one of Hollywood’s most iconic figures. “I knew the Mansion was not intended for children, but I asked no questions,” she revealed about her frequent visits to Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion. “From the year I was born, 1990, until I was about 11, I went to the Playboy Mansion because that’s where my friends were.”
The Nicholson family tree extends beyond those present in the holiday photos. Jack is father to Jennifer Nicholson (born 1963) with ex-wife Sandra Knight; Caleb Goddard (born 1970) with “Five Easy Pieces” co-star Susan Anspach; Honey Hollman (born 1981) with model Winnie Hollman; and Tessa Gourin (born 1994) with actress Jennine Gourin. Lorraine and Raymond, born in 1990 and 1992 respectively, share the same mother, former model Rebecca Broussard.
Sandra Knight was Jack Nicholson’s only wife. They were married in 1962 and divorced in 1968. Nicholson has not remarried since, despite having numerous high-profile relationships throughout his life.
The “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” star’s public appearances have become increasingly rare in recent years. His last documented outing was at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, where he attended the Lakers versus Denver Nuggets Western Conference finals NBA playoff game with his son Raymond. The actor primarily resides in his Beverly Hills mansion, a 3,303-square-foot property purchased from his late friend Marlon Brando for $5 million in 2005.
